Want to cry, I kept asking my teacher to give me some sort of way to improve my essay because I really wanted to improve my English assessment last term and after giving me some feedback she pretty much told me that “it’s good now there’s nothing you need to change” when she knows full well what I’m aiming for, and then I get hit with a 16/20 and only 5 words of negative feedback 😭

Like I know it’s the mark I deserve but it’s really hard to improve at English when I can’t get proper feedback, it just feels so helpless :(

Read exemplars and then take what’s good about them

Ngl only just realised this forum exists, I figured it’d be nice to be able to talk here instead of the “has anyone started their prelims yet?” thread

How has everyone’s first week of year 12 been?
stressful already, I stuffed up my year 11 results and don't know if I can redeem my grades in time for uni. But, we're coping

Good luck, I’m sure you can make a comeback - I’ve heard lots of stories of people who have!

Thanks I guess that’s a good idea, it’s still a bit frustrating to not get much feedback though
I think it’s pretty hard to give good feedback for English. Because u would just say rephrase this etc, maybe include this (maybe not include it because you might ruin something else). as much as u change an already written essay the underlying structure/ideas/way u write will largely keep your mark in the same region. Make sure ur ideas are solid and learn from exemplars and u shud be fine.

a word of advice regarding the common module, based on the feedback I've received and the feedback I've seen given to my peers as well as words from my teacher, you need to consistently link back to terms of the rubric, which in turn are meant to provide us new insights about humans and human experiences. it's not enough to just talk about how this idea affects another and how they all act paradoxically or inconsistently, you need to talk about why the composer did that in their text and what they wanted to let us know about who we are as humans and our experiences

definitely look at exemplars, but also try to develop sophisticated ideas of your own and do your own research into your texts fto further your understanding
