Well, the 117th IOC Session starts tommorow in Singapore to elect the host city for the 2012 olympic games. Who do you think will win the bid? Which city is the most deserving

I feel its between London and Paris.

Madrid is an outsider and barcelona (also in spain) held the games in 1988, so they are unlikely to select the same country after so little time.

New York is in America, and things like the Iraq war, and very hostile views to the US all over the world adversely affect their bid.
Although i add that New york is in the relatively foward thinking north east of the country.....but yeah still in America.

Moscow I'm not sure about. Probally outsiders.

London has a very good plan to utlilise facilities post-games.

Anyway, my money is on London.

Sounds a bit like our olympic park at homebush. Thats one of the problems with the olympics, all this money goes into something thats only 2 weeks long, and most facilities are hardly used afterwards.

The city chosen would need to have a good plan to overcome this. Perhaps design things with the future in mind not just with an olympic-centric view

There should just be one city which hosts the games every year. Some insignificant, yet important city, like Luxembourg.

I actually think Paris'll get it. They invented the modern Olympics, so I figured they'd poetically be the first to get it after Athens 2004.

Paris has the advantage of the IOC's wives liking the shopping. Londons bid is hurt by the wembley stadium problems, as it was to hold the soccer.

I would personally prefer London, as it provides a use for existing white-elephants like the millenium dome.

London or Paris will host the 2012 Summer Games after members of the International Olympic Committee eliminated Madrid, New York and Moscow in the first three rounds of voting.

EDIT: annouced seconds ago:

London will host the 2012 Olympics, International Olympic Committee president announces.

I feel the olympics is becoming far too big. The cost in hosting an olympics is enourmous; Is it worthwhile? Im sure it acts as a focus of world attention bringing the world closer and all that.....but only major world cities can host it.. All the candiate cities were major world cities and only a few smaller cities have hosted it in the past.

It would be very symbolic to hold a games in africa, but the size of it prevents this.

I thought that it'd be wonderful for New York to win the bid. While the games would be held over a decade after 9/11, the games would allow New York to show the world how it can get back on it's feet and remain one of the world's greatest cities after such tragedy.

Cliche aside, I hate the French. I'm glad that it went to the English.

Madrid also had an attack on them remember? Anyway New York tried sympathy vote and failed. New York is a great city though, not sure having the Olympics in America again is such a good idea after the Atlanta failure and the fact that unless it's football, baseball or basketball Americans really dont give a shit about other sports. And on the contrary, I hate the English, the French are awesome. U better at least be supportin the Aussies in the Ashes (maybe thats y i ahte the english so much atm).
