Just wondering, i won't hit 18 until the end of march. How many other people are coming into Uni <18? How much harder is it to get out and socialise without that option of UniBar/Pubs etc? Or is this all just a horror story from my Mums friends kid because he was socially inept?

I was still 16 when I started uni (yes, I'm a youngie!) but I didn't find it to be an issue. Maybe it was easier because I was in a course full of Asians who were studious, being from selective schools, and who were also shit drinkers (naturally, being Asians) but yeah, the few Aussies there were still found ways to drink and enjoy themselves so I guess it's in reverse for you--you can find ways to enjoy yourself without drinking, e.g. clubs and societies (they got me through until I was 18, and even now they still do because I don't like to drink)

I'll only be 17 for like the first two weeks of Uni, so I guess it won't really be that much of an issue.

il be in 18 in May. Screw pubs, think of all the house parties and on campus parties! As for clubs, it is a shame but ah wells thats life. Think about all those people who turned 18 on a HSC exam and not being able to celebrate their bday.

I started when I was 16 as well, so there's no way you can complain about a month! I guess if you want to go out to a lot of bars and stuff it could be annoying, but in that case you probably have fake ID already (I did, mostly). And at my uni - Sydney - the actual uni bars rarely, if ever, check. I mean if they went by the 'looks under 25' rule they would have to check everyone in there.....

I was 17 for the first semester of uni.

Got served at Unibar during the day but if you're too paranoid, you can always get your friends to get you beers. I've never ever in four years been ID'd there. Also used to get into Glasshouse (*shudder*) because I lived on campus and they never checked IDs for the kids coming off the campus bus - that may have changed though. Otherwise, like high school, there are a lot of house parties where it doesn't matter if you're 17 or 18.

It's annoying but it'll go by quickly.
