Just because a solo is slow doesn't mean that it's easy.
Here let me help you:

[sarcasm]Also Gilmour plays heaps slow so his solos have no merit.[/sarcasm]

Some people actually think that. Those who wouldn't know decent music if it danced around in front of the naked.
I was just making sure.
I think it was quite obvious when he quoted me as well as making that face.

Pure technicality, Malmsteen would probably be close to top 5
yeah sure he is 100% shread, and he is fucking good, however i find him to become a bit repetitive, and that i will have heard the simillar things in each solo.

i am very biased tho. i see Page as a great guitarist.

but malmsteen is a crazy fast guitarist.

Gilmour is a ledg.

But the fact that [I hate] Nirvana had a guitar player amuses me.

And I passed Black Hole Sun, that doent really have a solo does it?

This was made my Rolling Stone wasn't it?

as far as technical skill goes, nirvana should not be anywhere near that list.

but the solo in smells like teen spirit was great because it went against the more glamourous, skilled soloing that came before it. it deliberately rejected the flair and technicality that previously been on show.
it's the vibe of the thing. it was new and different and it became the theme song of an entire generation.

but that's just my two cents.

yea thats true, that logic applies to many of the solos on that list..whole lotta love, is insanely easy to play, but the way it sounds plus u kno the feelin u get listenin to it etc etc..all add to the quality of it..
