Haven't been for exchange, did go for vacation though.

I went temple-hopping in Kyoto and loved it. Go see Kiyomizu-dera, and the Gion district where the old-school Kyoto is.

I'm applying to go during fall semester next year. Don't know if I'd get my first preference, which is Kwansei Gakuin University in Nishinomiya (near Osaka).

And Doshisha is my 2nd preference. :)

ahaha my first impression of Kyoto wasn't that good, we went with the school and we ordered cabs to our long long away hotel then the cab driver while loading the luggage was PMsing or something and dropped like a 50kg luggage on one of the year 10's foot SO BEWARE WHEN CATCHING CABS =]
But other than that experience we saw many geishas which was really really cool and shopped (shopping there is more traditional japanese stuff).

I thought you had a male driver Syl?

Yes, but in Kyoto, there are lots of angry cab drivers and the first noise you hear is beeping. Compare this to the silence experienced in places such as Tokyo and Nara.

I just got back from doing a one week exchange in Saitama with a family. Had the time of my life!
That wasn't exchange, that was homestay! :p

I did the same one. It was the best time.
Spent 3 days in Tokyo,
After that, a week in Saitama with a host family while attending Inagakuen Secondary High, meeting many new people, making many new friends and creating so many great memories that will last a lifetime.
Our final 2 days in Osaka and Kyoto visiting the many temples and also Universal Studios Japan.

September 25th was a depressing day as it was our last.

I'm really looking forward to going back. I'm either going to go in December 2009 for a 3 week vacation, or I may go in March 2010 for a 10 month exchange (hopefully to Inagakuen) where I will do my last year of high school again, but this time.... in Japan.

We shall have to wait and see. I really think I want to do the exchange.
I'd be going through an association called AIIU (i'm sure people have heard of it), they specialise in Japan exchanges.

But the trip I just got back from was the time of my life also, and I can't wait to go back.
