B Arts (Digital Technology & Culture)

Wow, that's news to me. Looks like another degree bites the dust... If you want to do something similar, either do a straight up B Arts, or do a combined degree such as B Sci / B Arts. Both will allow you to do an Information Systems and an Arts major. You should still be able to do Digital...

    Wii

Instead of picking it up at EB, consider one of the various bundles going around right now, e.g. JB has the console and a second game selling together for $388 -- worth it as most games are at least $60 ATM. BigW and Toys R Us have sold bundles as well with Mario Party 8 (which is apparently...

    Major in Information System

Not 'too'. BA DTC/BAI students normally enrol in this UoS (being a core unit for those degrees), and it falls under the Arts Faculty's Digital Cultures Program (Arts Informatics). When I did it (and it was called History and Theory of Informatics), students from various IT degrees could also...

B Arts (Digital Technology & Culture)

The arts component usually takes up more of the degree. Of course, if you do different things in the degree, it'll skew things a bit. Generally, any UoS (which you do for a semester) is 6 credit points, though not always. A BA(DTC) consists of 192 credit points. When you do all the compulsory...

B Arts (Digital Technology & Culture)

Yeah, I should think so. As long as you're interested and make an effort, the only thing remotely challenging computer-wise in the 1st year is INFO1003, which has a lot of resources to help you learn. The later INFO/ISYS classes are more theoretical anyway with some memorising.

B Arts (Digital Technology & Culture)

A broad question to answer... your Arts classes will vary, of course. For ARIN UoS, ARIN1000 is just about the most boring class I've ever done (in the Arts faculty), but the other ARIN classes are much more enjoyable and the lecturers/tutors usually easygoing and approachable, though sometimes...

B Arts (Digital Technology & Culture)

If it does rise by much, I'll be surprised, as it would look like the name change actually did the course some good. My year was the final one I think before the name change (from B Arts Informatics), and it had 20 people max. Low demand. Anyway, 2nd-going-on-to-3rd BAI student here. The...

    Historiography at uni?

USyd's: http://edutech.arts.usyd.edu.au/Artsonline/v2_1_UOST/dsp_UoST3.cfm?uid=175421&Menu=Public I would think most universities, if offering a history major, would offer at least one unit on historiography. As a USyd student, I've linked to a unit I did this semester which focuses on...

Cover letters - make or break?

A question: When applying for job positions online, should the cover letter be included in the email body, as a separate attachment, or in one attachment with the resume following?

Question regarding course material, books, texts, etc

Haha, I did that subject as well, last year... I don't think it was possible for anybody to do all the readings, but if you just get the reader and pay attention in the lectures, you should get a credit. You shouldn't need to buy any books, and if you need to borrow, make sure it's a few days...

    Linux

If you want to try a Linux distro but don't know which one, try the Linux Distro Chooser. It's pretty helpful, though I went with Ubuntu (and am loving it) instead of its first recommendation, SuSE. As for 'copies', most distros provide free CD images to burn -- you usually pay only if you...

    The Woolworths Thread

Re: Woolworths FAQ- how to get a job Hey, well thanks Serius. :) Unfortunately, I didn't get the job: I suspect it was availability -- my hrs (14 across 5 days) and the fact that their Woolie's in the middle of nowhere and I didn't have a car, plus that there were two other final-stage...

    The Woolworths Thread

Re: Woolworths FAQ- how to get a job Does anybody know how long a interview with the store manager (the final one?) typically lasts? Since Serius and others make it sound so easy (ohpleaseletitbeeasy), is it just a quick in-and-out thing of a couple of minutes?

    Good History Subjects?

I did Renaissance and Reformation, and I loved it -- possibly my fave UoS last year besides ASNS1101 (Intro to Chinese Civilisation -- great historical/cultural UoS). The lecturer, Margaret Sampson, is great -- very accommodating to her students -- and she really knows her stuff. If you just...

Why do you call yourself an Agnostic?

Not necessarily. To help others is what underlies the concept of bodhisattvas. Also, while Buddhism may share some elements with Hinduism, it also differs greatly in several aspects, such as in the 'class system' -- one's place in the Hindu caste system is to my knowledge largely fixed, whereas...

    Muslim People in Australia

Have you been reading what I've been saying? Yes, the East has influenced the West (it's worked both ways, I would imagine), but the simple generalisation of 'UNCULTURED EUROPEANS + ENLIGHTENED ISLAMIC CULTURE = RENAISSANCE' is unsubstantiated. By agreeing with this statement, you seem to be...

    Muslim People in Australia

That doesn't matter as much as you seem to think. Just because you've studied both Ancient and Modern doesn't mean that your uncorroborated opinion is all the more valid. If it matters, I've studied Ancient, Modern, and Extension, and am continuing to study history at uni. Nevertheless, I...

    Muslim People in Australia

('renaissance', & 'Baghdad'.) The Renaissance was largely a hearkening for classical values and philosophies -- Ancient Greek, Roman. While there was some Islamic influence, it's a bit rich to claim that 'the ideaa of the renaissance was all thanx to muslims of asia in Bagdad....'...
