    Meiji Restoration Japan (Modern History)

I'm not sure if this is a territorial gain, but Korea gained independence from the Sino Japanese War (Japan's interests in Korea were recognised with the Treaty of Portsmouth). Also, Japan gained the southern part of Sakhalin Island, Taiwan, Pescadores Islands and the Liaotung Peninsula...

    UAI estimates

LOL this thread suggests anyone aiming for 100 is facing a lot of competition. It would be great if one of you guys do get it though. Do tell us in 2010 :)

    uni in america

If you're considering doing a degree like medicine, law or something specialised like that it would take quite a while to finish if you were to go to an American university. You'd have to go through college for an undergrad liberal arts degree AND go to postgraduate school. And the cost of that...

    Notes: Typed Or Written?

I rewrite maths notes by hand before I do exercises. I usually type all my other notes, but this usually isn't as effective. It's just easier. It is more effective though, if you research some of the information yourself.

    Do you like english

I like a subject when I'm doing well in it. I hate a subject when I do badly. I have a love-hate relationship with English. The concept of English is great. But high school English, like Maths, becomes a lot about remembering formulas.

    Exams vs Assignments vs Speeches

Regarding work involved exams>assignments>speeches The preparation for exams is really daunting but it really shows in the end result. Exams seem more fair to me. I just hate it when someone who's only finished an assignment the night before and has leeched off other people can get the same...

    Language Course Eligibility

There was another thread on something like this here. Also, according to Open High School, for something like Japanese Continuers the prerequisites are "School Certificate Japanese or equivalent knowledge" so I presume the same thing applies to other languages. But then again, I wouldn't know...

    Modern History or Biology?

I don't know whether to do Modern History or Biology either. So far, Modern seems more interesting. I'll have to develop my essay writing though. Pretty much everything scales down with the exception of mx2 etc. In terms of scaling both subjects are very similar e.g. this year an aligned...

    Demise of the US

Suddenly Sarah Palin's foreign policy of 'keeping an eye on the Russians' makes sense.

    Number of textbooks

I'm an impulse buyer, so I ended up getting 3 HSC Legal Studies textbooks. I'm not sure if I'm even going to be keeping the subject for the HSC. Couldn't help it. They were only $20.

    Number of textbooks

Wow, everyone has so many textbooks. How many did you get for the prelim course?

What did you choose for your HSC subjects?

English ext 1 Maths ext 1 Chemistry Legal Studies Modern History I'm thinking of dropping english ext for year 12 and picking up maths ext 2. Probably 75% sure on keeping the other subjects, but we'll see. If I really get into modern history, I could always pick up history extension. Gah...

All my own work- HSC was there a point for that?

It's probably there so if you get caught plagiarising, you can't use the excuse that you 'didn't know' (lol, terrible excuse). Or so the Board of Studies doesn't get blamed etc.

    Maths help pls

We've done a few of the options: logarithm, polynomials, circle geometry, functions etc. You'll learn them next year. They're very simple and easy to understand so you don't really need to learn them too early.

    Maths help pls

    1. Maybe I'm misreading the question but if a parabola concaves down and doesn't cut the x axis, the y value of its vertex should be negative 2. -k^2 + 5k -6 >0 k^2 - 5k + 6 <0 (k-3)(k-2)<0 Sketch concave up parabola cutting at 2 and 3 on number line The area below 0 is between 2 and 3 so the...

Re: 2008SC SC Results ~ I think the marks are aligned: "Once students have completed the test, then all questions are marked. For each question or item in the examination a raw mark is calculated; this is the value out of which the question is marked. All of these marks are then added...

    SC Results Thread

Re: 2008SC SC Results ~ Maybe you weren't suited to the types of questions they asked? There are people who have been used to doing advanced maths for year 10 and aren't used to problem solving types in the mathematics exam. Perhaps you misread the question. I think I did this for one of...

How did you go in your semester 2 report?

Really? At my school, how grades are determined varies by the faculties. Some might go by the indicators (for 'excellent', 'outstanding' etc.), ranks or marks. But I ended up with all A's fortunately. Probably because PDHPE this year is based on theory and not practical, lol!

How did you go in your semester 2 report?

Does anyone try to decipher the "teacher comments" they give? Like, they try to seem all formal and nice... but they're trying to say something else. E.g. "improve her achievement... [by] increasing the use of flair and sophistication when composing texts" = your writing doesn't make sense, plz...
