yeh your allowed to just take images and appropriate them. At on stage most of them are images from magazines or famous photographers n stuff.

Im using photoshop for mine, im planning on gettin mine close to finished during these holidays. I started just with main idea's of the play and finding images that evoked the themes of the play and then just backround research and then fiddiling around on photoshop which is sooo time...
