    Dedicating A Story

On the topic of pictures, who has graphics in their story? I have a couple to give it that corporate feel.

What's the most popular genre people are writing in?

I had no intention of labelling it as that, but it just evolved that way. Looks great on paper as well.

    not started..?

Can I ask what it is about?

What's the most popular genre people are writing in?

Mine's just a story, but I'm calling it neo-colonial, dystopian satire.

    Inspiring Short Stories

Stay away from the Salinger, he turns good men into EMOs. Bah!

You need to wait for that creativity streak. Sometimes, if I'm lucky, it will hit me and I rush to the computer to get it down. If you don't have creativity flowing, what comes out is some ho-hum derivative boredom.

    Finished? What are your reflections?

The reflection statement really helps to explain to the marker what you were trying to do. For such a confusing piece like mine, it will help them appreciate my intertextual referencing and other sly tricks I've used.

    Finished? What are your reflections?

I enjoyed whipping your ass in it. (if you do some research, you'll see why I said that)

Which selective school? Anyone at ours that hasn't finished their first draft got our teacher's foot up their ass, and were then kicked out of the course.

    Random facts about your stories.

Doesn't illiterate mean you cannot read or write? Yes, I know I'm a pedant.

    Same here.

Good luck. It took me 3 weeks to write a shitty first draft, and off and on writing over the last 4 months to produce a third draft.

    Random facts about your stories.

    1) What stage are you at? Preparing for the all-nighter 2) Estimate the % of your story that has changed since its inception. 70%? Elements are the same, but almost every scene has been re-written. Continuity nightmare. 3) What is your in-class assessment mark? 46 4) State the point...

    How did your Vivas go?

Killed them. I can't believe their BS meter didn't go through the roof. First draft, no research, very little logbook.

Considering I had done a first draft in term 2, I would have entered. Wouldn't have got anything though since that draft was shite.

Word limit - Over or under?

Most extension markers will know if you're over limit. They can tell by how long it takes to read it, or how long it should be in accordance to structure etc. If it's 1000 words over, thats another 15% (or thereabouts) they're going to spend reading. I guess a few words over won't matter, but...

could I trouble you for an opinion? =)

I think the idea that to get 50/50 you must write a post modern piece is a misconception. Post modernism (when done right) can be very effective. Don't think just changing the order of your story or adding authorial comment is going to make you get higher than somebody who writes a story well.

Neither did our school. I'm suprised because we have some extremely talented writers who would have jumped at the opportunity to showcase their works.

Word limit - Over or under?

1500 words under. I have an ending to write though.

    Teacher's opinions?

It seems that unless a teacher calls it brilliant, there's always work that needs doing. Ask specific questions, force a conclusion out of them. Example: "Do the characters feel real for you?" "Is the plot interesting?" "What sections of the story would you change?" "Did you get my...
