    Recommended Math Books

When I did 2u - all I used was Fitzpatrick. Never touched Cambridge (too cheap to purchase it). Apparently Coroneous is good as well (I have it, but it's too ugly so I didn't bother using it) and Maths In Focus is just a joke. That's just my opinion, but hey, it got me a Band 6.

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Ext 1

I highly doubt that it'll be 62 - if past trends continue (as it should, I mean there would be no logic in rising the band cutoff for an exam which was considered harder than past exams) you'd be looking at mid 50s in my opinion. Anything over would be overestimating the ability of the state...

    Terry Lee Solutions 3U

Half your HSC mark will be the top HSC mark your school/college gets and the other half will be what you get. Then they average the two out and that's your overall mark.

    I wrote in lead.

I used pencil last year for some parts of the 2U exam when I did it last year - I still ended up with a Band 6, so I don't think there'll be any problems.

Thoughts on raw mark needed for an E4

http://boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/pdf_doc/maths-sample-hsc-draft-st6.pdf There's a draft for possible multiple choice in Extension I and II. Stupid, but it's highly likely. Rote learning for maths is quite simple, you do a variety of different questions and you memorise the exact...

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Ext 1

My maths department are really picky, like I lost marks once for using the first-derivative test instead of the second derivative and also for writing 'hence true by process of mathematical induction' instead of 'since true for n = k and true for n = 1 etc all that bullshit'

Thoughts on raw mark needed for an E4

Binomial is the only different style of question I could see. Because for the past decade, so many students are 'wrote' learning; therefore there has been a rapid increase in Band 6s (especially in 2007 - and those exams were a joke) - are we getting smarter as a state? I think not. Therefore...

Thoughts on raw mark needed for an E4

http://community.boredofstudies.org/134/atar-hsc-marks-technical-arcana/34578/raw-band-cut-offs-updated-15-09-04-a.html You seem to be overestimating the state's ability, also you're forgetting that this is the 2nd highest level mathematics this state has to offer.

Thoughts on raw mark needed for an E4

Perceived averages are highly inflated, especially among the top end. Most students over-estimate the abilities of the state. Also, as mentioned, BoS mainly attracts the more higher ended students, as evident by the amount of accelerants and students sitting 'higher order' subjects and students...

Thoughts on raw mark needed for an E4

What do you guys think will be the cutoff mark for an E4 this year? I personally think it'll be mid 50s, but that's just me guessing.

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Ext 1

Questions 1-5 were a piece of cake, question 6 - the projectile was easy, but binomial fml. Question 7 was fair though.

Fair paper. Couldn't get the probability out though. fml.

removal of time limits on exams

I think it'd be stupid to remove time limits. Heaps of students would be in an exam room for the whole day (myself included). Also, if you can't solve a question within the recommended time, kinda tells you that you don't know it, or that you haven't perfected your knowledge to the level required.

raw mark needed for band 5?

That test was pretty easy, so I'd say you'd be looking at least a 43/50, but it's really hard to say due to the significant amount of non-attempts for Section III.
