Is it common to drop the law part of your degree? Today my parents said I was weak and a quitter. But is it really quitting to not waste my life miserable in law school then not even pursing law?

I thought of a compromise with my parents. If I really am intelligent, I should have no problem at getting into JD at UNSW, USYD or UNIMELB later on in life, and for now I just want to try out commerce and do really well in that. Do you think thats wise? :)
