lol ive looked at the mx syllabuses a few times but wouldn't you need question practice to apply those maths skills to certain problems?

f(abs(x)) functions are just reflected against the y-axis it's because the x values would be always positive; so whatever the graph looks like x>=0, it would be the same on the left of the y-axis
