    ANU or Macq???

There's no reason why you couldn't get a D average in your first year, or indeed any year after that. I would suggest that after a year at ANU you might forget about transferring to Sydney anyway. Depending on what sort of legal career you are after, ANU may well be a better option than either...

    paralegal job interview

I have a job interview for a paralegal position at a small boutique law firm tomorrow. I know the basic drill for a job interview, so I know that generally you wear the same sort of clothes you would expect to be wearing as an employee at that business. Do paralegals wear suits...or should I...

    No more DFEE??

Umm...like I said, it's pretty valid to award academic positions to people based on prior academic performance, no? The point is that UAI is not about getting a job, it's about getting first pick of future studies.

    No more DFEE??

Totally. What sort of idiot would think that the best way of assessing aptitude for further study would be prior academic performance? How ridiculous! PS: it's not about how suitable you are for a given industry. it's about how hard you are willing to work towards your goal. harden up and beat...

    best law university

You have obviously never met a law student.

Qualities needed to be a lawyer?

Well....not quite. Positivists normally state that there is no necessary connection between law and morality. There are obviously many different moral questions which may arise during the practice of law. A positivist just holds that the law itself need not, of necessity, have an inherent moral...

SOFT subjects (the easy way out) . Your thoughts?

You are going to get absolutely destroyed in your first uni essay. In high school, you may get a little bit of kudos for your lexical gymnastics. Your first marker at uni, however, will probably ask you to kindly shut the fuck up and clearly make your point, if there is indeed one hidden...

SOFT subjects (the easy way out) . Your thoughts?

OP: I did soft subjects. I got a better UAI than you probably will. Blow me.

    Homocide problem, any tips?

God, the HCA didn't know what they were doing in that case so there's no hope for the rest of us...

    Homocide problem, any tips?

I'd argue the merits of both if I were you. The case you should look at for the first argument is Royall v the Queen, and you'll need to either distinguish it on the basis that in Royall the victim's fall was the cause of death, whereas here the cause was subsequent acts by the victim, or argue...

    a few questions...

Agreed. People love to compare law to any number of other disciplines. Bonus points to my latin teacher in high school for telling me that continuing on with her subject would be great for a law degree later on. I've also heard English, Maths, Science, Languages, Chess etc. Load of crap...

    a few questions...

I would have thought the hyperbole was obvious? Perhaps not. Law school is awesome, I love it. It is a bastard at times, but it's totally worth it if that's where your passion lies. I don't think I'd be being a typical self-pitying law nerd if I said not to touch a law degree with a ten foot...

    a few questions...

1.) Law is a cruel mistress. Law school is glamorous only in the most illusory way. That HD you pull against all odds will make you feel like a god, but behind it is hundreds of hours of brute work. There is nothing sexy about 10hr days at the law library. If you are content to cruise through...

He's probably the most useful and helpful poster on this forum, and has been for the last little while at least. You keep making an ass of yourself.

worth coming to ANU for law?

Uhh...dude....a UAI cut-off of 95 means that if you get 95, you will get a spot. That's not to say that the UAI won't rise, but it has remained pretty steady for the last couple of years at least.

Contracts - Rule Against Penalties - Apple and AT&T

Surely they could impose a fee which is a genuine estimate of the amount by which they have subsidised the phone? That wouldn't be a penalty, and it would remove any incentive for buying the phone from one carrier then unlocking it. (disclaimer: i hated contracts)

What do you hate about law students?

Tell us what you really think. Umm....the first half of your post directly contradicts the second. Doctors certainly can be held negligent, and often are. I saw a case in the Supreme Court about it recently, actually.

You are in your first semester of law, I assume?
