Yea, ours are all back, but the Year 11... I mean, Year 12 class is playing with it... feels so weird calling them that, but I just realised my teacher called them Year 11s as well :D Then my school's keeping whatever they're allowed to 'borrow' from us to help them out... but we're allowed to...

    can they SPECIFY text?

No. There are four prescribed texts for most of the Electives (I'm guessing you do Crime Fiction), and because you must study only at least 3, they can never, ever ask for a specific text - because there will be people in the state that may not have studied it. Like, if they asked me to talk...

Do you do more units of maths than english?

4 English, 4 Maths... right up until a week or so before 4 English was due... now I'm just at 3 English, 4 Maths... but so should have dropped 3 Eng, it's my 11th unit and won't count.

Will doing Legal Studies drag your UAI down?

To calm your paranoia: http://www.uac.edu.au/pubs/pdf/tableA1-2003HSC-fin.pdf Half way down the first page: Legal Studies: Max UAI received by a student doing it last year was 99.95 So there's no need to sacrifice doing a really good sub in fear of not doing well overall

    Prelim Work in the Exam

You can get the syllabus here: http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/pdf_doc/textilesdesign_syl.pdf (pdf file) or http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/pdf_doc/textilesdesign_syl.doc (Word file) It's pretty good - outlines everything they can test in the exam... but...

    HSC Tips - Volumes

Yea... I derive all the volumes... we were made to for every single volumes q ever, cause there could be marks in it... so like Area = ... delta v = Area with a delta x/y at the end V = lim(delta x/y ->0), sigma, the delta v line = integral line Isn't that right? Learning more...

    HSC Tips - Graphs

Another tip: for those really strange graphs, like an ellipse on the diagonal in the middle of nowhere - implicitly derive the function, then let the denominator = 0, sub back into the original equation to find those points (which will now have vertical tangents); let the numerator = 0, repeat...

any way of knowing mdp final marks??

Sounds the same as my MTP... I don't know, I think my teacher was telling me something about this year the teachers being given like formulae sheets that could determine what mark was given... no idea on any more details than that, but it sounds intriguing, doesn't it...

Question: Do we get marked down for doing two of Coleridge's "conversational" poems??

What the... the markers aren't marking your choice of poems, they're marking how well you answer the question and how well you can demonstrate your brilliant knowledge of the concept of journeys... You should do the poems that you're best at, that suit the question the best, and that you can...

    Just a quickie

Maths 2/3U Syllabus 8.1. Informal discussion of continuity 8.2 The notion of the limit of a function and the definition of continuity in terms of this notion. Continuity of f+g, f-g, fg in terms of continuity of f and g So it looks like you need just a little knowledge... just says that...

    what TEXTBOOK do you use?!

Our school gave us Cambridge 3U Year 11 and Year 12... I'm very happy with both :D Although because we do topics out of order, we only used half of the Year 12 Cambridge. I like Pender's style, and my Maths teacher knows him, so it was all good... And have a few different ones for 4U...

    Just a quickie

? Oh... yea, that's the defition of differentiability... that, plus the point that f'(a) exists... you need both things to exist for the graph to be differentiable...? I'm lost... maybe I should just stop talking :D

    Just a quickie

Found something in my Year 11 notes... test for differentiability at a point 1. test for continuity 2. check .....blah Then I have the graph y = |x| A proof of continuity A 'therefore, continuous at x = 0' A proof (or disproof) of differentiability A 'therefore, not differentiable'...

    Just a quickie

Good, Slide Rule, good... No. Absolute values are not continuous at their peak... I forget why, but I know my Maths teacher drilled that into my head... maybe cause it doesn't fulfil the formula I wrote before... But think, you def can't differentiate that point on an absolute value graph...

Thanks guys :D I don't think any of the girls in my class got into Texstyle... it'd be nice if they did though. But I def want to go see it when its all put together... does anyone know where it is this year? Last years was so... cramped. Val, you like my avatar? :D I like my avatar too...

    raw marks for 4u

3U is my pet subject :D Um... I want band 6s/E4s in everything (well, dare to dream), but a reasonable Eng/EE1/Legal marks, and a gropable mark for ME1/ME2/Textiles :p

    Formula sheets for 3u kids!

They have a formula for time payment... my dad brought home a General exam the other day and I was like, huh...? Time payment formula... makes you forget the reasoning behind it. My Maths teacher doesn't even teach us some formulae so we remember why we're doing what we're doing, like that...

    Just a quickie

I dunno... do the test for continuity? The whole lim(x-> -0)f(x) = f(0) = lim(x-> +0)f(x) Otherwise, I have no idea, and would just wing it :D

    Motivation behind 4U

Um... none of the above - my Year 10 Drama, English, Geo and Maths (I know, how funny) told me to do it when I was picking subs back then for Stage 6... then got told to do it by my Year 11 Eng and EE1 teacher... Hadn't really ever heard much about it, so I went along for the 'journey'... and...

    Prelim Work in the Exam

Just a q- how much Prelim work should we know for the actual exam? I checked the syllabus and all the supporting docs, but none of them clarify. I mean, not just things like fabric structure, but like the value of textiles, certain parts of the industry, etc. I suppose they could ask it, right...
