    To Sam Davis

An impossible question to answer succinctly, every scenario type question is different. A starting point could be to consider: - what is the question actually asking. Maybe rewrite it in your own words or in point form. - the number of marks allocated to the question. Use this as an indcator...

    To Sam Davis

If you know and understand everything in my book, yeh you'll do great! If you want a top 10 in the state then go crazy and checkout as many resources as possible. By the way Geoff Lancaster is a great bloke, and his Excel study guide is definitely worth a go. HTH Sam

    To Sam Davis

Certainly the aim was to cover the entire syllabus, and certainly ever dot point within the syllabus is covered. (The exception being the project work which obviously is better covered by other means than a textbook). As you are no doubt aware, the syllabus gives little indication in regard to...

    SAM davis text book

The multi-choice answers are on our website as a password protected PDF, I guess we can just give out a password to open it, use t281. If you got any other questions, just ask! Sam

    Confusion on the ring topology

If the network cable that forms the physical ring is broken then definitely a token ring network will fail. However, as each node listens for messages then if one node fails the messages just keep on going past that node, that is, the network continues to operate. If this was not the case then...

    VB6 Access database

You could use a data control, which simplifies attachment to the Access file but is somewhat restrictive in terms of what you can do. Have a play by mucking around with the properties of this control as it may suit your needs. Otherwise open the database in code. You'll need two variables...

    Recommend me a SDD textbook..

Yeah, that Davis book is really brilliant. Apparently the author is a top bloke too!!!

SDD? Does any one feel this way?

Try writing and maintaining a commercial software package with no planning or documentation. It certainly never happens in the real world with long term successful applications. When I first started programming I had similar views to those mentioned above, however once you have to upgrade...

I LOVE SAM DAVIS!! (is he married?)

Geeeeeee....... :D I'm soooo embarrassed!!!!! Thanks heaps. (By the way, I am married, SORRY!)

SamD - maybe an error ???

Yes you are correct. In the first print of the text my editor decided he understood all about random numbers and changed my original. Unfortunately he made many of them incorrect. This has been corrected in the second and subsequent print runs of the text and is noted in the Teacher Resource...

    alot of questions

Stepwise refinement and top-down design as you say are very similiar. However it is NOT true that they are only used in the structured or waterfall SW dev approach.

    sdds

There are 3 inputs, lets call them A, B and C, where A is the fault detector, B the door and C the light switch. For the light to burn A must be false (0) and B must be True (1) and C must be True (1). Any other combination results in the light not burning (0). Now A is the reverse of the...

Software Developer's View of the Hardware

The reality is that its not called a flip-flop unless it has those three components. Many texts, mistakenly call a latch a flip-flop.

    sdd scaling

Believe me, not all SDD classes are like yours.

    conversions and binary arithmatic!

If you've got time it may be worth checking your result using decimal. If you get stuck then work it out in decimal and then try and generate the appropriate working in binary. Bit of a cheat, but whose to know!!!
  16. S

    conversions and binary arithmatic!

Unfortunately it is highly likely for the question to stipulate that the working be done in binary. Which is fair enough really, most of us can do simple arithmetic in decimal!!!!

    weird...

In the old 2 and 3U courses many students tended to regurgitate glossary definitions with little real understanding. I think the intention was to avoid this with the new courses.
