Re: HSC 2014 4U Marathon I know right? Basically inside the house which apparently has nothing in it. At one end of the house it is fired and hits one side of the triangular shaped roof and then reaches its maximum and hits the other side and then falls to finish at the other side of the...

    Favourite 4U Topic

Integration. An integration is a problem which you need to solve. You are given all the necessary means and if you have decent experience have all the knowledge required to solve the question. But its up to you how you do it. It's your solution. :)

    Re: MX2 Integration Marathon Bloddy crazy question, started off like this is gonna get me no where, nek minnet: Let I= \int_{0}^{\pi/2} \ln (\sin{x}) \textrm{dx} = \int_{0}^{\pi/2} \ln (\sin{(\frac{\pi}{2}-x})) \textrm{dx} = \int_{0}^{\pi/2} \ln (\cos{x}) \textrm{dx} So I guess we...

Re: MX2 Integration Marathon Epic. So, If i let u=arctan(3x^2) right, i get sqrt(2)/4 * ln(arctan(3x^2)) which if you derive also get a constant multiple of the integrand, so i assume both are correct.

Re: MX2 Integration Marathon Did not think of that, if you let u=arccot(3x^2) then you end up with a ln? Are both correct? Also, in regards to the working, derivative of arccotx=negative * 1/1+x^2. So i believe there is a negative missing.

Re: MX2 Integration Marathon Just a minor mistake... From your working: \frac{1}{\sqrt2}\int_0^{\pi /2} \frac{\sqrt{2}sec^2x}{1+2tan^2x} \ dx Now if you observe closely, the integral above is actually the tan inverse of the tan function. Thus, = \frac{1}{\sqrt2} \cdot...

Re: MX2 Integration Marathon Ah k nice :) Question: How would you determine value for tan (pi/8)? ---- Nvm. Figured it out. You can just split it into tan(pi/4-pi/8) and solve the quadratic.

any year 12 doing engineering studies

Engineering studies best complements the subject set as follows: 4u Math, Chem, Phys. I can vouch that Literally everything works together with engineering. In 4u math, mechanics interlinks. Chem, materials science interlinks. Phys, vectors, motors, forces interlinks. Basically it is an awesome...

Is 2U the same level as 3U in difficulty?

3u is harder than 2u depending on paper. E.g. Last yrs HSC 2013. 2u was hard, 3u wasn't as much.

Re: MX2 Integration Marathon Step back, davo's sol^n is like crazy. Sy did u have to mess around with identities as well or something else? Alright, while i'm here... Let t=tan(x/2) \int_0^{tan(pi/8)}\frac{\frac{2t}{1-t^2}}{1+\frac{2t}{1+t^2}} * \frac{2}{1+t^2} \ dt...

Loan Repayments Q (No repayments for 6 mths of time)

A store offers furniture on hire purchase at 20% p.a. over 5 years, with no repayments for 6 months. Ali buys furniture worth $12000. What are the monthly repayments?' That's a rate of 1.2 over 5 years. The 6 months puts a spanner in the works as now you have to consider per month. Basically...

    Pretty simple Q tbh

By definition, isn't an inverse function: f^{-1}(f(x))=x So sin inverse of sin 1=1 and sin inverse of sin 1.5=1.5 BUT, sin inverse of sin 2=pi-2 and sin inverse of sin3=pi-3 And even to the extent that: sin inverse of sin 100=100-32pi. Noting that everything is in radians. Can someone...

    Mathematics Extension 2 EXPERIENCE!

Here's the ultimate rundown: - Mathematics Extension 2 will take up alot of time and can be challenging at times - If you are good at and like maths the challenge will most definitely pay off. (Epic scaling) Balance comes down to the individual, how much time they need to set aside. If...

Re: MX2 Integration Marathon when do you know the simplification is to be |absolute| ? Ah I get it now, but... Why wouldn't it be 2014 not 4028 in front of the integral? If you say for example take the boundaries between 0 and 4pi. The integral of 0 to pi multiplied by 4 is the solution for...
