I have to ruin the fun.
2\sqrt{2+\sqrt{3}}\\=\sqrt{8+4\sqrt{3}}=\sqrt{2}+ \sqrt{6}\\8+4\sqrt{3}=(\sqrt{2}+\sqrt{6})^2\\=2+2 \sqrt{12}+6\\=8+4\sqrt{3}
I guess both moduli are equally correct? Is one more simple than the other?
Hey! I just started complex numbers this week as well! I might be wrong, but I'll give it a try.
z_1+z_2=1+\sqrt{3}i+\sqrt{3}+i\\=(1+\sqrt{3})+(1+ \sqrt{3})i\\|z_1+z_2|=\sqrt{(1+\sqrt{3})^2+(1+\sqrt{3})^2}\\=\sqrt{8+4\sqrt{3}}\\arg(1+\sqrt{3}+(1+ \sqrt{3})i)
tan^{-1}\left(\frac{1+ \sqrt{3}}{1+...
Question 5a and 5b from 2.1 in the Cambridge 4 Unit Maths textbook:
$5a. $a\alpha^2+b\alpha+c=0$, where a,b,c are real and $\alpha$ is complex. Show that $a\bar{\alpha}^2+b\bar{\alpha}+c=0.
I remember hearing that the roots to a quadratic are complex conjugates of each other, but I don't...
Having said that, for any year 10's or early year 11's reading this, best to start working your ass off now, because it will make it much easier to secure the first spot once the HSC year starts.
The way I see it is:
If your son is the type of person who will take advantage of their free time, he should do 10 units. The free time he is given will be used to study (for the most part) and he will get better grades in the 5 subjects he does than he would have gotten in the top 5 of his 6...
That's really a decision for you to make. You can look at scaling, but you shouldn't really drop based on that. Drop the subject which you don't like the most. That will be the one that you probably study for the least. If you having trouble deciding, remember that you can wait another couple...
I'm curious as to how napping in the afternoon negatively affected you. I've been taking naps in the afternoon for the last part of year 11, and I don't think it is that bad. Basically I got home, had a shower and slept from 3:30-6:00pm. Then I had dinner, did study and slept again from about...
Hi!
I'm Dean. I'm doing the following subjects for HSC:
- Mathematics Extension 2
- Mathematics Extension 1
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Advanced English
I'm hoping for a high ATAR. I guess my goal is 95, but the thing is I don't really have a particular course that I have my eyes on, so I don't...
Cambridge 3 Unit HSC 10F, 16b.
$Ten coloured marbles are placed in a row. What is the minimum number of colours needed to guarantee at least 10 000 different patterns? [HINT: This will need a guess-and-check approach.]$\\$My logic is: $3^{10}=59049$ but $2^{10}=1024$ therefore 3 colours are...
Re: Prelim 2015 Chit Chat Thread
Basically just getting results back from the preliminary course, and the usual first day stuff - that is talking about the topic were doing, the course, arrangements, etc.
I also need help with this one:
$How many times would you need to roll a die so the probability of tossing rolling at least one six is greater than $\frac{9}{10}$?$
