Re: HSC 2016 MX2 Combinatorics Marathon Not correct. Interestingly, I get an anagram of that answer: 738

    Ebola Spreading Fast

Yes, and the person I quoted was one of many people on this thread who fell for this crap. I love being able to say "I told you so".

    Ebola Spreading Fast

So much for all the hysteria. 13 months down the track, and still only 6 deaths outside Africa.

Re: HSC 2016 MX2 Combinatorics Marathon So this has now become a thread for ex-students?

    Estimate

An ext 2 mark of 84 is historically equivalent to an ATAR of 98. With that rank at BH, she should comfortably get 84.

Re: HSC 2016 MX2 Combinatorics Marathon My question - aren't you too young to have heard this word?

    Complex number locus questions

But .... it's a locus question .... you haven't explained that the first one is a circular arc. And what are you claiming is the shape of the second example?

What is so special about James Ruse or any other selective?

It seems someone here doesn't understand what a generalization is. It is something that is GENERALLY true, NOT always true. It is the same as saying "October is generally hotter than September". It is absolutely correct, but doesn't speak for every day. As such, it WAS an accurate generalisation.

What is so special about James Ruse or any other selective?

Nevertheless - a pretty accurate generalization.

    Probability Question

I guess it's too late for you, but for the sake of posterity: 12C3 is NOT the number of ways of choosing three different CARDS - it is the number of ways of choosing three different DENOMINATIONS. The 4^3 is then the number of ways of choosing a particular card from each of these denominations.

    Was there a syllabus change?

The trend continues to be towards more spoon-feeding.

    Orbital Velocity

To answer the question, the earth rotates 366.25 times in the course of a year.
  14. B

    Orbital Velocity

It takes 24 hours to rotate so that the sun is in the same position, yes. But that is not a 360 degree rotation.

Is 4 unit maths getting easier ?

Euler's result hasn't been in since AT LEAST 1980.
  16. B

    Orbital Velocity

You can treat it as either. It is a simple calculation. A clue: One earth day is 24 hours, but that is NOT the time taken for the earth to complete a 360 degree revolution (despite the fact that this is what practically all textbooks claim). Once you figure out why not, you should be able...

    Orbital Velocity

Question: How many times does the earth rotate 360 degrees on its own axis in one year? (It is NOT 365 or 365.25 or any more precise value for that number)

    State rank maths

Even if I were a marker - even markers don't see the paper until it comes out. And .... markers don't make decisions about state ranks. And .... I'm not a marker.
