    I get all of this but at the same time you have to be honest with yourself about whether you plan on putting enough work into maths, I kind of wish I had taken general and spent the huge amount of time that would have freed up on other subjects - and even with scaling and what not i would have...

    uhhh no it isn't - unless you are in a really competitive year. getting 95+ in general is better than getting 55-60 in advanced and I would argue that you could manage a 95 in general on a level of effort that would get you a 60 in advanced.

    I would suggest that it still is - even if you apply for a big grad program having someone who works there and can recommend you during the process substantially increases your chances in most, but not all, situations. The other thing is just getting experience, it makes you much more attractive...

    They also recruit through careers fairs, graduate events, CA and CPA events etc. I got asked to apply on three separate occasions.
