    Youths charged on Australia day

Re: Australia is a nation of violent drunks It's interesting. The same people who sprout this kind of generalist rubbish, are usually the first to defend minorities when a particular cultural cross section is criticised for the acts of a few.

Help the farmers - Drought Action Day - 15th Feb

I find it ironic that Woolworths, who have rorted not only farmers but subsequently consumers so extensively over the years, are the driving force behind this day. It's amazing how PR hype can override the realities of the world without question..

Heath Ledger Dies of Overdose in New York

If I had more respect for the acting community, I'd probably be upset. I see the ruined and directionless lives of young people and young families everyday. At least Heath had the opportunity to pursue the life he loved.. RIP nonetheless.

    Recession

I highly doubt that any recession in the US will translate to one in Australia. The prospects of recession and the ongoings on world financial markets have merely indicated that there will be a dampening in the Australian economy, most likely taking growth to within 2-3%, as oppose to 3-4%.

Liberal leaders set up council to win back support

I'm sure it won't be too long until we see 'new leadership' in the Coalition. There are rumblings around that Costello hasn't yet jumped ship due to possible leadership chances in the not too distant future. Turnbull of course is the man in my opinion, but I don't think the Coalition can...

Liberal leaders set up council to win back support

I personally believe Rudd should apologise to Britain on behalf of the French (or lobby Sarkozy to do so) for the Norman invasion in the 11th century..

    Next Governor-General - Beazley?

Whilst on this topic, I suppose we should discuss who, aside from Beazely, are potential candidates for the positon. I personally believe that Justice Miachael Kirby would be an excellent choice for the position. He holds a vast degree of respect across many sections of the community, is...

    Graduate Law

Entry into the Graduate Law program at USYD generally requires a UAI over 90 and a WAM usually above 74. UNSW law advised me that to be competitive for entry into their program, one generally requires a UAI over 85 (25%) and a combination of credits and distinctions throughout tertiary study...

    Next Governor-General - Beazley?

Political affiliation is vastly different to having particular leanings or views. The idea of the G-G being detached from government is overtly undermined if they have served a political master. Such appointments will always have an element of favour, this cannot be avoided. However the older...

    Next Governor-General - Beazley?

Maybe so, but that shouldn't be a consideration when appointing the G-G. I agree with Rudd. The representative needs to be someone who represents that broader community, and has no political affiliation or similar.

    Manners in today's society

Manners, etiquette and respect have long been on a downward spiral. It reflects the progression to a society focused upon self-interest and self-advancement with little, if any, regard for others. Whilst table manners or similar might be perceived to be of a more trivial nature, I tend to...

    Aussie Politics Laments - Democrats

I don't see any political future for the democrats. Their relevance has been somewhat dimished with the rise of the Greens, and Australia's political landscape is far too small, in my opinion, to cater for two minority parties. The Democrats have progressed too far to the left to warrant...
