why dont you wait until you get your official timetable? its quite rare to get clashes in first year sci with maths, because pretty much everyone has to take maths, so they put on enough lectures and tutes to fit everyone in comfortably.

Re: bring lunch to uni? I totally agree with bringing your own - food from uni is too expensive, mostly unhealthy, not very fresh and if you want to eat at a decent time of the day (i.e. lunchtime), you have to queue up for ages. I usually take a sandwich, a couple of pieces of fruit or veg...
