it helps u if its a hard question and it tells the marker that you know what ur talking about. my teacher puts alot of emphasis on it so i guess its important.

i dont have ur problem, we have a set "study room" - doesnt change i just want better teaching methods...some teachers have no idea

it all depends on what im studying...if its simple maths h/w then yes, if its assignments/studying for test/exam then no. i also sometimes like tv as background noise.
