    Remarks on Law LecturerS

Mr Skinner is a decent contracts lecturer - he knows (and enjoys) the material. He is English and a little eccentric, but he's good. Unfortunately the best contracts lecturer in the faculty, Mrs Stone, went off to teach high school maths - a great loss indeed. On the upside, the worst...

The 'Show us your bookshelf!' thread

Our second-hand bookstore is exceptionally niggardly when it comes to buying books

    Possession

Adverse possession is fun. Too bad with Torrens it gets hacked apart ;)

    Possession

Re: what does this mean? Possession is title. This means that whoever has possession of goods has a right against the whole world to those goods, except someone with a better claim. For example, I find a laptop on the ground. I pick it up and now have possession of it. I therefore have a...

    Butterworths Series

Apart from proper leather-bound books the classiest law book I've seen is the 7th Edition Litigation book (Hunter, Cameron & Henning), in olive green with the small classical painting on the front and subtle compass watermark.

    Butterworths Series

Nothing was as bad as last edition's cover. Bright orange background with lime green text! :chainsaw:

    Butterworths Series

    Still has a dodgy cover!

    Butterworths Series

Definitely. Worst layout ever. They need to learn how to use headings. Hell, even HC judges are doing it nowadays, academics have no excuse! Not to mention the horrible, invisibly thin paper that ends up getting torn with every turn of the page.

    Gay marriage in NSW/Australia

Re: should gays be allowed to marry in NSW Hello  May I point out this thread, which was probably one of the most heated and intelligent discussions on the topic I've seen in these forums (especially past page 30)

    Law Diploma or Grad Law?

Re: Law Diploma or Grad entry into B.Laws Well answered, I agree with the above

    Texts for Legal Referencing?

Re: Substituting books An interesting question is whether to follow tradition (and the High Court) and put the year of the statute in italics, or follow the rebel suggestions of Nemes & Coss and leave it unitalicised. I mean, it may be more logical to leave it unitalicised, but I'm still...

    Legal Advice - Property Issue

Re: Personal Legal-ish issue Consideration is so passe :p Roffey and Musumeci anyone? :read: But you're right, consideration isn't an issue. There didn't need to be a contract for you to have had an immediate right to possession of the goods.

    2006 USYD Law I

True, but my guess is that it would be exponentially correlated (And note that even the fee-paying students at USYD needed 96.15 UAI)

    Hello? Anybody out there?

Although there's nothing to stop one writing poetry on the side :P

    Legal Advice - Property Issue

Re: Personal Legal-ish issue That's good news - if you found the goods for a cheaper price here, it would be silly pursuing it.

    The Billable Hour

bahahaha I'm not particularly in favour of the scheme though. I'm all for fairer, less expensive and more accessible legal services, but surely it would be too hard to provide such estimates?

    Writers block!

In the interests of stirring up the poetry section, my two cents. The inspiration comes from life. If you have great highs and lows and feel moved and provoked, you write that way. If you aren't mentally and emotionally active, or you are having a flat year then the words tend to drizzle...

    Hello? Anybody out there?

Probably because there aren't too many. I think a great deal of potential poetry major workers end up falling back on their more comfortable medium. (That's what I did - no matter the quality of my prose, I always knew I would score higher marks with a narrative.)
