Q: "What kind of lawyer do you want to be?" A: "A rich one!"

The flip side to that however as one of the partners where i work says, is that post recession workload will drastically increase in certain areas, particularly if you deal with foreclosures and other such property matters, business insolvency etc, family law, crime etc. I suppose in a way it...

    minimum pay

What industry do you work in? Are you casual or part time etc? How long have you worked there? Do you have qualifications, eg hospitality cert? This makes a difference in terms of what the minimum rate of pay is.

    Majors/sub-majors help!

You can do more than 4 units semester but you need permission from the Head of School i think? to do so. Overloading generally isn't recommended - if you think of the units as 10hours worth of work each, as most say they are in the unit outlines, if you do 5 you have 50 hours total, i.e. more...

    vUWS not working?

Is anyone else's vUWS not loading? I couldn't remember if there was supposed to be maintenance today or anything so not sure if it's just mine not working...? Ta :)

highest mark in a subject at uni

Its surprising sometimes how you can get a highest mark without getting an extraordinary mark yourself. I overhead someone saying at uni last week that they got 78 in Competition Law i think? and that was the highest mark.. was very surprised given that its not far over a D, notwithstanding that...

    Law articled clerks laid off

Haha i reckon! Although, it was somewhat satisfying that when i worked at Legal Aid one year over summer break, I discovered was earning the same as some people who were in superior positions who had been working their for years, whereas I had been there for 1 month in a grade 1 support staff...

What textbooks do I need for Business and Commerce?

The unit outlines or learning guides or reading guides or equivalent document on vUWS will have a list of texts that you need. You can also look onthe Connect Books website.

    Recording lectures??

Just be careful because some lecturers get angry... Don't know if it's an intellectual property thing, or them not wanting people to get out of attending lectures cause friends record it, but I have been in classes where lecturers have gone off at students for recording without asking. It's...

    Recording lectures??

It depends on the subject and the teacher. As a general rule - unless in the 1st introductory lecture, the lecturer says you can, ask them permission. Also, check your unit outline as for example, I have one unit this semester and one next semester that expressly prohibit any form of recording...

    Eating in lectures

Well, that's why you should ask the lecturer lol :) Don't know about your experiences, but friends at others unis have had the same experience - generally it's a no unless it's a friendly lecturer, as they think you'll be more worried about eating than paying attention. They're usually a...

    Eating in lectures

Depends on the lecturer and the room. According to the signs around building EA (the new building at Parramatta), you can't eat in that building. But some lecturers let you. As a general rule - don't unless a lecturer tells you can or you ask before class if you can as some see this a very rude.

    % of nationality

My opinion is based on stats in various immigration textbooks (I did immigration law over summer semester so that's why i recall this info :)). Apparently a large portion don't stay, and those that do stay and apply for PR after graduation, average time remaining here is 2 years i think from...

    % of nationality

I get what you are saying and whilst there may be some truth to that, a lot of students simply want an Australian qualification. They don't care where from, as long as it is a recognised Australian qualification. The fact is that a large portion of intermational students don't remain in...

    % of nationality

Well, obviously international students don't all apply for unis other than UWS given the large number at UWS :p You just had to be at a business college graduation at some point to see how many people are international students by virtue of the lack of attendance of just about everyone in...

    % of nationality

Are they international students or domestic? because I know a lot of students from certain countries do the accounting degree because in the country that they come from the Australian qualifications are very highly regarded, plus uni here is cheaper. So some students come here to save money and...

    Hours of Uni per week

That is true in some cases but not true in others... Apart from that though - a lot of UWS courses have compulsory attendance - if you don't turn up, you fail. So don't just decide not to turn up without checking the unit details first guys :)
  17. L

    Hours of Uni per week

That's about the same as a lot of courses because they tell you that you should do a total of 10hours work total, so if you have 3 hours x4 classes per week they expect you to do 4 x 7hours on your own. But in reality, in 1st year especially i found that that wasn't necessary. I got away with...

    Hours of Uni per week

Yet another reason why i love humanities-type courses :) Even when I had 4 units per semester and law classes were 4 hours instead of 3, the most i had was 14 hours per week. This year I have 1 day at uni, 3 x 3 hour classes.
  19. L

    % of nationality

Is there any particular reason why you want to know what to "be expecting"? I can understand if you are an international student or something like that and want to feel comfortable by having others around in a similar situation, but if not, it isn't the most relevant question to be asking.... I...

This class will not open until the other classes are full

My understanding is that unit co-ordinator's have to open these manually - as in, they don't just open up once all the other classes are full. Email your unit coordinator and let them know the available options are full and you are yet to register - they may open the other class or simply put...
