    How to English?

This is true. I read that thing when I was in year 11 and it did help me a lot (It's ridiculous I learnt what a topic sentence was in year 11 off an internet site and not from a teacher.) There are many 'problems' you can have with english, but I do not think a tutor is necessary. You can give...

    Hamlet

disease/death/decay/poison motif culminates in their 'death by poison' so an effective metaphor for corruption - that is how I linked the final scene to the theme of corruption, though it took me some time to write out the developing 'disease' of corruption throughout the play and then show the...

General Thoughts: English Advanced Paper 2

At the same time, it reads as though you didn't know the last part of the play if you didn't reference it properly. If you legitimately reject it and provide evidence, then it's convincing, but if you simply ignore it, it shows a lack of knowledge. The weaker student will say: No, this question...

What is everyone doing with their notes, workbooks etc?

They're not so much notes as pages upon pages of random analysis. I'll bundle them up in the coloured books the school gave us for each module and store them somewhere

What sort of pen do you use?

gel pens are so smooth! But they make my writing REALLY messy if I'm doing an exam because I'm so stressed and trying to write quickly... whereas that does not happen with a ballpoint. I still used gel pens (energel) for the exams... I hope they can read my writing.

Is it true 2 markers mark your papers?

they never see what marks the piece gets from other markers and if there's discrepancies they keep marking it (4+ times) until there's an average (there's a senior marker or someone who can see the marks so they can implement this)

    Hamlet

all I used from it was "the simile of 'like a soldier'" to show.. I can't even remember. It had something to do with noble revenge. Also, note that is said "Make detailed reference to Hamlet" - this does not say "make detailed reference to the closing scenes"! You were supposed to use the final...

    Module B Hate Thread

it asked how it informed our "judgement of the play as a whole" - You can't show understanding of the whole play if you don't quote other scenes, or at least make reference to them. You weren't restricted to evidence that was only within the very last scene. Also 'closing scenes' is a bit vague...

    Module B Hate Thread

Yes. I emphasised the importance of the last scene, but had to analyse themes throughout the play to show how the ending resolved them. I remember a trial question I practised on that said Hamlet's value lies in its "fitting conclusion" so I'd thought about the ending a lot. Also it's important...

The three questions here - and thier Difficulty

That's a good point, so it's unique in that it is their version of reality. I can't really remember what I wrote anymore but I'm happy with what I did. I thought part of Robertson's 'uniqueness' was his take on the legal system as theatre.

The three questions here - and thier Difficulty

It was interesting to explain what made the representations 'evocative' and 'unique'. I think 'Unique' is a matter of opinion; how can you really say anything is definitively unique? 'Evocative' however, you can support with a lot of evidence.

General Thoughts: English Advanced Paper 2

mod A: In what ways does a comparative study accentuate the distinctive contexts of (text 1) and (text 2)? mod B: different for every text "In the context of your critical study, to what extent does your response to the closing scenes in "text" inform your judgement of this "text" as a whole...
