Ridiculous Dentistry Clearly-in at La Trobe University. Any verification? MUST LOOK!

Re: Ridiculous Dentistry Clearly-in at La Trobe University. Any verification? MUST LO I really hope so, I just need some evidence to help my friend make a dispute with VTAC/La Trobe. We've called them both and they won't release the clearly-in ENTER.

Ridiculous Dentistry Clearly-in at La Trobe University. Any verification? MUST LOOK!

While the VTAC website quoted a "fringe" of 94.6, I would assume the fringe is due to a rural student being offered a place at "94.6". The clearly-in enter was not displayed. I have a friend a year younger who was very hopeful she would get into Dentistry either at Melbourne or La Trobe. She...

    Health Occupations - Salary

Can't say much about Pharmacists or Optom, but from personal experience shared by my extended family of Doctors and Dentists. It seems the Dentist are fairing better :) Doctors: Uncle - 10 years. Salary: $180k/yr - Note he has just gone back to Uni to get a Dentistry degree and now makes...

    Entry into Medicine

Well, since you're rural, you're almost guaranteed a Dentistry offer at La Trobe as long as your enter is above 92.00 (oh and English 35 with any one of chem or bio 35+). No UMAT is required for Dentistry at La Trobe, however, I suggest you still try for it as they may change the requirements...

    Bond university admission?

I'd think that too. Maybe SOME offers are given before the UAI? It would be ridiculously unfair otherwise. Plus someone with a 60UAI would most likely be unable to cope with the workload.

Difference between Medicine/Surgery and Medicine/Surgery (CSP Bonded)

The course work is the same. A BONDED place, means you are contractually required to work 6 years in a rural area (there is a list of areas under this category). An unbonded place, does not specify where you must work after you graduate; "leash-free". =]

Alternative pathways into the health field...

Actually, UMelb extended their Dent undergrad course until 2011. The Clearly in ENTER for Dent at La Trobe in my year was only 98.8 with a fringe of 98.55. If you have SEAS or are a RURAL student, it'll drop to 97 to 92 respectively.

Offered unbonded CSP at both Monash and UNSW

urmm... Take monash =] Reason: because... Because they have a nice tree near the school =]

    A little help

I've had the luxury of talking to Mr Spades and I find him quite insulting. As with transfers. Anything related to Medicine. Just achieve top marks and you'll get in. Best of luck.

    Med or dentistry

While true to the word, my personal experiences with moving to a rural area (for uni since la trobe is in woopi-di-woop-woop) has not been all that pleasant. Sure I meet new friends, but my relationship with my ex-gf was strained and snapped by sheer physical separation. In my opinion, the...

    Med or dentistry

HAHAHA that's true! I had my work experience in there...*shudders* Especially the mental ward. o_O While I wholeheartedly sympathize for them, they just give me a feeling that I'd get stabbed with a pen and bashed to death with a clipboard if I was to be left alone...X_X

Alternative pathways into the health field...

Yes pre-reqs for those courses are Chemistry. However, have you considered Dentistry at La Trobe, Bendigo? Pre-req are: 35 English & any ONE of: 35 Bio or 35 Chem or 35 Physics

    Entry into Medicine

What are your plans in the public sector? 2 things actually. While most people (my friends who've are already graduated Dentist) go straight into Private. Each earning a comfortable $120,000-$200,000 salary FIRST YEAR. I will be going into a non-private hospital. While my pay is half private...

Easier to get in Med or Dentistry?

I wouldn't care less if a university quoted the minimum UAI/ENTER into Medicine or Dentistry was 60.00! It is NOT an accurate score. About 1,000 students apply for Dentistry, 700 of those students lie above "90" with only 50 places offered. Meaning, most would be the 98+ range. If you are...

    Med or dentistry

Removing all bias from what I'm doing, I would say you should go with what you want. However, the above cliche statement really doesn't help much from what I could garner from your post. Your cons for dentistry isn't really a "CON", it is a question that plagues all courses amongst ALL...

Easier to get in Med or Dentistry?

Adelaide Med or Dent is harder to get into than La Trobe or CSU.

Easier to get in Med or Dentistry?

What's your UAI (ENTER)? I can't believe it, it may be a mistake, the FRINGE enter for la trobe dentistry this year is 94.6 (as stated on VTAC). It was 98.55 fringe last year, I can't see how it dropped 4 ENTER! I mean, let's think about it logically. Last year: Undergraduate positions...

Easier to get in Med or Dentistry?

UMAT is not taken into account. From what I've heard, they have not considered anything less than top grades over your 1st year to transfer. Pharmacy students successfully transferred, all were straight HD1 (As) across all subjects. I have a close friend (who could have gone into dentistry...

    Entry into Medicine

Cliche as it may sound, I am doing Dentistry as a passion. While La Trobe did not have an interviewing process, I know that what I would have answered in the interview not be scripted. I plan to work at minimum wages (for a dentist) once I graduate. My sister had problems when she was younger...
