Good night's sleep on the 16th

My parents have got this intricate and rather expensive drinks bet with each other riding on my results but they refuse to cut me in on it, so I think I'm going to get my revenge by waiting a few hours before telling them what I got :).

Good night's sleep on the 16th

One of my best friends managed to stick it out until the notifications arrived in the mail but she genuinely didn't care about her results and so it wasn't very difficult for her. Just get it over with quickly and don't spend five unnecessary days thinking about it?

    UNSW AAA Scholarship

Yeah I got mine last night at our speech night and I didn't realise until then that the nomination meant you actually GOT the scholarship. I hadn't been that fussed about it until I got that piece of news :).

All nighter on BoS on dec16th

I was thinking I wouldn't even check my results on the 16th (was going to wait until the 17th for the ATARs so I didn't have a massive freakout on the 16th) but now I'm kind of excited about it actually. Probably pull an all-nighter by default since that's what I tend to do lately and then...

    So many pages

Don't judge by page count, judge by word count. If you're writing the same amount as everyone else but in less pages then there's nothing wrong. Also, the exam booklets are ridiculously spaced.

yeah, i do. it's not an overly realistic goal though :(.

    USYD scholarships

I haven't received any kind of notification either so I called the office about ten minutes ago and found out that I got shortlisted in Arts :). Aerath's right -- if you're in Arts and haven't gotten anything yet your best bet is to call up. They're in the process of mailing them out but...

    G to the ERMANY

I did 6a) ... wrote ten (and a bit) pages, which I was happy with. Poking holes in the WR is always much fun. I was thinking of doing terror and repression but in the end I stuck with the things I'd studied fifteen minutes before the exam started :). I thought it was fantastic, all up...

    General Thoughts: Modern History

Absolutely loved that paper. Like, I am unbelievably stoked with how it panned out. 10 pages for Germany (Weimar), 12 for Riefenstahl and 11 for Indochina (Geneva Agreement). All excellent questions. Although I do have one friend who had a slight breakdown during the exam and didn't write...

Parents reaction to you not making it?

My parents have been downplaying my expectations all year and I know that as long as I eventually end up doing what I want they'll be perfectly happy. No pressure from them at all. Me, on the other hand ... well, that's a different story :((.

    General Thoughts: English Extension 1

I loved it and so did my entire class (we do Crime Writing). 20 pages on the essay and fifteen on creative ... very happy with it, all up. No more English!

    Society and Culture

I did it last year (see sig) and absolutely loved it. It's the kind of course which requires a deep understanding of interconnected concepts rather than rote-learned essays or micro details. Which means that it's great to study because you can do it by discussion or even just by thinking about...

Do you lose marks for having 2 related texts?

Re: Called up Board of Studies regarding 2 related texts Not very happy about any suggestion that the BOS are going to give people who did 2 relateds a free pass. Reading the questions right is part of the exam. You don't do it ... well, that's not anyone else's problem but yours. This whole...

Should we reintroduce the cane in schools?

Disagree. By that logic a child belongs to the whole of society rather than to a family unit. I think punishments like grounding and time out are effective as well, but it's not like I would allow my neighbours or my friend's mother or my bus driver to weigh in. So in short, that's a massive...

this looks like a smart year

Our year is better than last year IMO, but mainly because the IB didn't manage to leech out all the smartest kids from the cohort like it usually does ...

prescribed text as a related text?

Not allowed, AFAIK. Play it safe and don't try.

Yeah, for combined law at USYD. Not going to get it but a girl can dream ... or something like that.

Is smacking a child ever acceptable?

Because school age kids are too old to be smacked. And for the reasons why ... It's not a question of whether a child "chooses" not to listen to reason, it's a question of whether they "can" listen to reason. A child who understands the reasons but won't obey is likely to be made more...

What will you do with your school stuff?

I've got someone lined up to buy all my notes etc for four of my subjects, which is good. Other than that I'm selling all the textbooks except the ones my brother needs, chucking out the absolutely unnecessary stuff (like maths exercises) and then advertising the rest for sale to the year 11s at...

Is smacking a child ever acceptable?

IMHO it comes down to the fact that parents feed, clothe and just about do everything for their children - including accepting liability for their child's behaviour in some cases. Teachers don't have that level of responsibility. It might take a village to raise a child but parents are the ones...
