    Using cis

    Yeah haha. Btw how do you do it in MATH1081? ie. induction?
  2. C

    Using cis

    cis isn't standard in other countries. The notation e^(i theta) however is... But it's okay for BOS.

    COMP1911 or 1917?

    Damn, I think Achim was quite good... but apparently he's gone now :S

    Com/Science

    UNSW no longer offers Winter courses. It's been that way since 2008 (where they made 14 week semesters into 12).
  5. C

    COMP1911 or 1917?

    This is not necessarily true. I found it enjoyable (mostly due to good lecturers) but quite a lot of students find COMP1911 really difficult. They do it because they have to. Don't do COMP1917 unless if you have to. I've had friends do it and say that it is really, really hard.
  6. C

    exam paper?

    Yes because the question paper is separate to the answer booklet...
  7. C

    exam paper?

    Well, of course they take it because it has the answers on it...
  8. C

    Dux College Worked Solutions

    Suckers... they should do it in Latex... Word must be a pain for maths lol.
  9. C

    Dux College Worked Solutions

    Upload the solutions here... Looks like another advertising scheme from Dux... Why can't tutoring places be honest...
  10. C

    Proof for a modulus, inequality induction =D

    Hmm... I might be wrong on this, but I don't think you need to test it for n=2... EDIT: But it wouldn't hurt doing so because n=1 is trivial.
  11. C

    Will it be any syllabus change in ext2maths in 2012?

    I wonder the format in which CSSA and Independent (and other trial companies/schools) will make their preliminary papers... Probably would include 10 marks of MC I think... But that's a good thing, isn't it?
  12. C

    Complex Help

    A simpler way is to factor out z and then solve for z.

    Q3 (c) --> mathematical induction question

    2(k+1)! = ... >= (2k+2)(2k+1)2^k (k!)^2 = 2(k+1)(2k+1) 2^k (k!)^2 = (k+1)(2k+1) 2^(k+1) (k!)^2 >= (k+1)(k+1) 2^(k+1) (k!)^2 (as 2k > k for k>=1) = 2^(k+1) ((k+1)!)^2, as required. etc Btw, this is really a 3U induction question...
  14. C

    Curve sketching query

    You actually can. I think Trebla likes that method, if I recall correctly.
  15. C

    HSC students' maths paper 'cruel and difficult' (SMH)

    It doesn't really matter... It's just a variable name...
  16. C

    HSC students' maths paper 'cruel and difficult' (SMH)

    In general, for most students, timing has always been an issue with the Ext 1 paper I believe. So it shouldn't really come to a surprise.
  17. C

    HSC students' maths paper 'cruel and difficult' (SMH)

    Re: Bogans Complain about Maths Ext.1 Test to Newspaper Well, one markers make it easy for the markers. ie. You give 0 or 1 mark... No need to read through the working to find areas to give part marks, since half marks aren't given. If it's wrong then 0. Likewise if it's right... I like their...

    HSC students' maths paper 'cruel and difficult' (SMH)

    I didn't think it was that hard... But then again I did my HSC a few years ago...
  19. C

    Q7 (a) Volumes 4 Marker --> will I get 4/4?

    Well this is the method that Coroneos uses in his book... so I'd say that it's correct...
  20. C

    Superannuation or loan repayments in HSC?

    It will never come up in a 4U trial. Only in 3U. Even so, they're not hard. It was actually my favourite topic in 2U. It's a shame I never got tested on it...
