    MATH1141/ PHYS1131 rollcall

They have 8am lectures for first years now...?
  3. TheStallion

    MATH1131

They recently overhauled the probability and stats in 1231/1241, starting the 2011/2012 summer session. Apparently they made it a little more relevant, removed some of the dumb shit and added some nicer stuff which is actually applicable, so probably stuff that helps with MATH2089 and other...

Can I have please some advice about Civil Engineering? Thanks.

Waste of time spending a whole subject slot on some shit 13 week subject when you could just do a 2 week bridging course, or better yet just work hard in the 1121/1131 level of physics. Free electives are there for single degree civil engineering students and are called general education units...

    MATH1131

I dunno what bleakarcher and soloooooo are on about, name one time that probability was used in MATH1131... it's a 1231 topic yeah, not 1131. Binomial theorem is used in a really limited way, it's at most going to be used in maybe 3/100 marks in the final exam, and it won't be a question on its...

    Whats NCARS? ( Non-Course Academic Requirements )

Clearly they just haven't been fucked to update the dumb BB stuff, any browser will work fine, it's just a piss easy multiple choice test

are the buses free on o week ???

This, drivers rarely if ever actually give a fuck, especially on the 891/895

    Getting to uni (UNSW)

There's a few areas nearby which always have free spots, just need to know where they are, search around and you'll find out. Just try both and see what you like. Drive one day, train+bus another day, see which you like better. It's not rocket science.

    Attention UNSW Motorcycle Riders

I suppose you could get a locker, but I've never actually seen the size of the lockers - they're probably too small to fit the helmet in. I reckon just carry it around, it'd only get a bit in the way if you had to take it with you to the bar or something, but since you're driving I assume you...

Oh you're 2nd year, assumed you were 1st year for some reason, but yeah you'll be fine then

    Engineering

Yeah either way mechatronics and mechanical are still both school of mech+manf eng, so mech/mechatronics both have common first 2 years. Mechatronics people would still be fine to work in a mechanical eng position for the most part, but be aware that employers might give preference to the...

    Underage at O-week

Nah the roundhouse one during o-week, didn't even know there was some gay underage one
  15. TheStallion

    Engineering

Either mechanical or mechatronic then I guess, far more career opportunities in mechanical though, not really many jobs in mechatronic from what I know

    HECS-Help inquiry

When the system tells you that you have a $3300 debt do you seriously think "fuck, better ask a bunch of other uni students online!"? Deadset call the bloody uni, why would you screw around with something big like this

    Underage at O-week

Dw man the party is pretty shit anyway

    Tutorials

Best analogy ever ^ Depends what degree you're talking about OP. Some degrees the tuts are probably piss easy and you can gun them in a day, others won't be so easy when there's constant exams in them etc.

    Engineering

What are you actually interested in working on?
  20. TheStallion

    Prescribed texts.

Yeah for arts stuff it would be best to get them. Wait until the first lecture though to see what the lecturer says. You won't need them in the first week, and probably not the second either.
