    Medicine degrees and 3U maths?

On 3U maths: No undergraduate medicine courses that I know of have any math requirement, and in fact only Monash has a subject prerequisite (chemistry) other than English. Many Universities may have recommended studies but these are not required to be eligible for a place so you definitely do...

What did you get in acer's practice test 1?

Don't worry that's a good mark! I got about 110 in the first practice test and I ended up getting 98th percentile in the actual UMAT. I've heard people say the ACER test is significantly easier but I honestly didn't think so. Either way I'd say it's almost impossible to extrapolate what you...

    UMAT woes

^ Practice will definitely help by letting you get used to the style of questions but overall I think it's the hardest section to improve on (maybe impossible) so don't become discouraged if your marks are not improving. I did about 20 hours or so of UMAT prep and never really felt more...

    UMAT

Agree with everything enoilgam wrote. About tutoring - I don't think it's necessary (I did go and it wasn't that helpful), but it certainly can't do harm. Having a lesson plan and someone thoroughly go through examples is far more efficient. But as I said, you should definitely be able to...

Check how many band 6's your school gets

Ah my bad then Yea definitely lower ranked schools would show far greater variance in DA count every year.

Check how many band 6's your school gets

Need to filter by school name: http://imgur.com/as30fd1 And yes it should work for schools above 100, just checked

Should I change one of my subjects to Bio or Chem

I'm not too sure about other health degrees but for medicine you don't have to swap any subjects if you don't want to. Only Monash med requires chemistry for applicants, and having done HSC chemistry, I don't really think it has greatly helped my understanding in med thus far. Any required...

Check how many band 6's your school gets

This is an easy and not commonly known way of searching how many band 6's (Distinguished achievers / HSC 90+) your school gets every year for each subject. Use this information as a guideline as to what internal ranks you should be aiming for. I used this for my HSC, although it honestly just...

    Physiotherapy

Automatic 5 bonus points if you live in Greater Western Sydney means limit should really be 94.95. Though to be fair every university has bonus points to inflate the cut off ATAR.

    Pathway to med?

TRY the UMAT this year and see how you go, the results will come out before universities have their application deadlines. If you do well and make up your mind that you want to do medicine, you won't have to wait until you graduate for the GAMSAT.

    HELP NEEDED for UMAT! PLEASE~

Well the minimum UMAT score at UNSW to be considered for an interview is 150 overall... Which is like 50th percentile. But you'd probably have to get 99.95 and be Rural level 5

I'm not sure about my subjects???

If I recall correctly, swapping subjects in the preliminary year becomes more inconvenient the later you do it as you must complete all assessments in order to continue to the HSC level. Whatever the case, firstly don't worry about the combination of subjects e.g. too many social sciences, you...

    HELP NEEDED for UMAT! PLEASE~

Section I: Some will of course be more gifted than others and find it easier to deduce / rationalise solutions, but overall with practice and understanding when doing practice questions (as ElleWhy says) I think you definitely can improve. For the first section what helped me the most was being...

    Is economics hard?

I find with Eco it's almost 50:50; some people hate it and drop it ASAP, others love it and do really well in hsc. I can't say much I how it compares to modern other than both scale quite well. Doing Eco probably is the smarter choice if you are really good at analysing trends/relationships and...

    Is it too late????

No LOL I usually started studying 2 weeks before the half yearlies / trials (with a lot of it being accomplished DURING the exam period). While it's nice to have notes e.t.c. all prepared 2 months before assessment, if you are a cramer, and it is just how you study, then there is nothing wrong...

    To all Med Hopefuls

Hahahahahaha no. In all seriousness though - I know your username is probably just for fun but honestly be prepared to accept medicine anywhere. The UMAT is really a hit and miss - yet it is pivotal in determining who gets a medicine place. Having said that though, I'm sure someone who is...

    To all Med Hopefuls

Not the almighty Medman but for the Provisional Entry MD (Usyd does not offer undergraduate medicine), interviews are usually only given to those who recieve 99.95 ATAR or equivalent in IB. However I've heard rumours that students have been given an interview with 99.90 in years where there was...

    Your subject regrets

Regrets: Physics. Was really only interested in the space section, but the bigger issue is that I thought it would be far more mathematically based, and with less emphasis on the "social and environmental factors". Overall it was my 12th unit and lowest subject.

    To all Med Hopefuls

Hey firstly thanks for the VERY informative and well written post. I just have a question about the bonded scheme: Does breaking your contract only incur a financial penalty? Will it cause any other unintended consequences e.g. hospitals / colleges become aware that this person did not fulfill...
