    wolframalpha says the focus is (-1,-23/8) which is what I too calculated. What I am thinking is you made a mistake where it you said y-k=4a(x-h)^2 when you meant (x-h)^2=4a(y-k)?

    I agree and disagree with this. For the majority of the 3U candidature it ain't going to be easy to learn, you may just be the minority. The majority would have to spend a good amount of time studying mx1 i.e. trying to understand the concept, maybe not in year 11 but in year 12 definitely...
