anyone who can do the paper in ~1hr and get 80+, I have a question for you!

To be brutally honest, I don't put any effort into managing my time I do the exam in about 45 minutes and I don't care how much time is spent on each question @btb94: Hell yes, they're too easy and I have to concentrate so hard when I'm going back through because I know there's a silly mistake...

Anyone scared of not getting an ATAR?

    I have a friend who got 30.05 so I don't think the cutoff is 36 :/

Anyone else have exams on the same day?

Mine's fairly reasonable This week is English week Next week is Maths week (Ext 2 and Ext 1, Mon and Wed respectively) Third week is Science week (Chem and Physics, Wed and Fri respectively) Fourth week is software week (Thurs) 5 day gap (bordering on 7) for maths 7 day gap for Chem + Physics...

    General thoughts

General thoughts on the Drama exam? The first question took me by surprise and I'm fairly sure it was answered differently to how they wanted but the second section wasn't so bad I thought. What do you guys think?

    ATAR Estimate Please?

You can't tell your results based on positioning. I know nothing about your school and its potential. First in one school could be equivalent to (close to) last in another. I can't really help you. Do past papers in each of your subjects, get them marked and then we can help you properly.

How much are people getting in the 3U exam on average?

I finish in about 50 minutes. I'll usually get one thing wrong due to silly mistakes or something (so I redo the test in the second hour and use another 20 minutes just checking EVERYTHING)

effects of being only one in ex2 class

Same problem. Our teacher was SO slow. We took 2 terms to do Polynomials and complex numbers so I jumped ship and taught myself. I reckon I'm doing all right though, I got 114/120 for the 2008 exam :)

    random tips/hints

    I'd be pretty miffed.

    Formals (yr12); Semi-Formals (yr11); Socials (yr10)

It's because the people who get 99.95 have to be good at English. Good at English = good at expressing oneself = fairly good in social situations.

Do we need to memorise the pH at which indicators change colour?

A better answer is "sort of" You need to know acid/base results but not the end point of each indicator.

    Mod Arg form

    x + iy = (sqrt(x^2 + y^2))Cis(arctan(y/x)) Account for quadrant You're done in 2 steps. Get over it, that's really good for a 2 mark question

    Parametrics Question

    Here's the solution You know that the equations of each normal are y = px - ap^2 and y = qx - aq^2 Thus it follows that 2y = (p + q)x - a(p^2 + q^2) 2y = 2mx - 4am^2 - 2b y = mx - 2am^2 - b which is the equation of a straight line

whats a good score for the 2003 paper?

Oh good, I did the same paper yesterday and got a similar mark Couldn't do all of that question but I took advantage of the fact that they gave you the information to skip bits.

    Parametrics Question

So you have two points on a parabola, P and Q, that are connected with a chord with a gradient ((p + q)/2). P and Q can be anywhere on the parabola as long as the gradient of the connection between them stays the same. Both P and Q have a normals that intersect at N. Since P and Q move, it...

    feminism

Ugh... I really hate modern feminism. As it stands now, I see more sexism against males than for them. Sure, you have more male CEO's, but statistics don't pick up on the fact that more men are willing to sacrifice their family life for their career than men. There are more women with...

One of the most bullshit I.T questions ever?

It's D, get over it It's not saying you don't get patches if you don't register, it's saying you're guaranteed to get patches if you do register. You don't look at what's sometimes the case or if the reverse is false, you look at what always is the case and ignore the reverse.

    2000 HSC Question 7 a ii

I did a past paper today, 100% except for this question. I loooked at the solutions and I still don't get it. Part i) is fine. Part ii) screws me up big time. Can someone help? "The amount of fuel F in litres required per hour to propel a plane in level flight at constant speed u km/h is given...

Polynomials question (or rather moving stuff about)

Yeah, they subbed it in, but I can't do it with the plusminus sign unfortunately

Polynomials question (or rather moving stuff about)

    x^3 + 3x + 2 = 0 has roots a, b and c. Find the equation with roots a + 1/a, b + 1/b and c + 1/c. I've substituted ((x +/- sqrt(x^2 - 4))/2 in place of x, but the solutions for the Cambridge book skips several steps and goes straight to +/-sqrt(x^2 - 4)(4x^2 + 8) = -4x^3 - 16. I just can't...
