I'd say that 8 good quality pages in the HSC will gaurentee a Band 6. On average people can do around a page every six minutes. If you can cut this down to four you could write a whole two more pages of writing for each module!
I'd be happy to look at an essay of yours for you and see if I can give you any feedback? (I don't mean to boast but I'm not bad at english :P)
Or if anyone else offers on here you should let them have a look! Lot's of people are intelligent on here and most likely won't mind giving a hand :)...

When they changed journeys to belonging in the AOS and some different texts lists for different topics. Seeing band 5 and 6 essays and creative writing about belonging would be very insightful.
Personally I am stressed to an extent but not to the point of ripping my hair out lol. I feel pressure on myself to do well in HSC but whenever I get too stressed I go do some exercise or killing something on Modern Warfare 2 to release my study angst :D

I think its way long over due for a new standards package to be sent out (by memory I think the last one was in 2002???) especially since the English texts and syllabus has changed. Do you think this has a chance of happening?
Personally I find Shaun Tan's works to be extreme boring and dull. Catcher in the Rye is a great book, or if you are looking for a movie you could look at "Hating Alison Ashley". I think mean girls is to comedic to be used as a serious ORM.

You've only started Prelim Japanese!!! You won't get to the complicated grammar till later on in the end of the year. You need to get the basics right or you will never be able to complete the HSC :P
