    Proofs help (Proof by Contradiction)

Assume a,b and c are integers. We know from pythagoras: a^2+b^2=c^2 and (a+1)^2+(b+1)^2=(c+1)^2 a^2+b^2+2a+2b+2=c^2+2c+1 c^2+2a+2b+2=c^2+2c+1 2a+2b=2c-1 a+b=c-\frac{1}{2} But addition is closed for the integers so the LHS must be an integer but the RHS is clearly not so...

Chemistry assignment on seperation techniques, help!

Salt and water is the easiest, do you get more marks for creativity?

Should I drop Extension 2 maths?

You usually need roughly a low 70 to high 60 (in rare cases) raw mark for a band 6. So this isn't neccesarily true. A 43% would not align very well (and Im assuming your school exam is much easier than the actual hsc). I would suggest you put in some effort first before seeing whether you want...

Yeah I would agree with his statement if all tests were like BOS trials, but you don't really need to be a genius to succeed in HSC.
  7. Q

    Proofs help (Proof by Contradiction)

How does this follow? You could have some combination of a and b which equals zero (since either a or b could be negative).

    Proofs help (Proof by Contradiction)

    a) is just rational root theorem. Oh you want by contradicton. Assume x=\frac{a}{b} (where a and b are non zero integers) is a root. Then: \left (\frac{a}{b}\right)^3+\frac{a}{b}+1=0 \implies a^3+ab^2+b^3=0. The parity of the LHS is different to the parity of the RHS so contradiction. b) Assume...

    University of Sydney Medicine undergraduate

Your forgetting scholarships for ANY degree like scientia, AAA etc which is another reason to get a .95. Also you seem to have a misconception that 99.95 are some sort of God like geniuses. In reality they simply studied hard and even had a bit of luck in getting there. Of course it's no easy...

Thats like saying those who do 4U maths don't neccesarily have to be good at algebra.

Why is there a gap in atar? UTS vs UNSW

Thats super obvious. Answer this, why do they have a higher demand?
  14. Q

    Reading

Your assuming they are reading solely to look out for 'fancy words,' which Im guessing isn't their main goal. There are a bunch of other benefits to reading; good sentence structure, evocative language, good use of techniques which imo is best learnt through reading rather than solely developing...

Can someone explain this to me?

c_0 corresponds to the constant term, c_1 corresponds to to the term in x. c_2 corresponds to the term in x^2 c_3 corresponds to the term in x^3 and so on. So by letting c_2=1 your letting the coefficient of x^2 equal to 1, and all the other c's are zero so they all cancel.

Can someone explain this to me?

The general form of a polynomial is: f(x)=c_nx^n+c_{n-1}x^{n-1}+...+c_1x+c_0 where all the c's are constants and all the x's are variables ANY polynomial can be represented in this form. For example if I let c_1=0.5 and c_0=1 and every other c=0 notice how the only terms im left with are the...

    @idkkdi you should do it.

Why is there a gap in atar? UTS vs UNSW

UNSW is more academically inclined and is also GO8 whereas UTS is more pratical (from what I heard) and isn't as 'prestigious.' (although prestige doesnt really mean much in Australia).

Standard Maths Year 12 - homework help

"Jack has twice as much money as times as much as Ruby." This sentence is making my head spin lol. Did you transcribe the question correctly? Ill take it to mean "Jack has twice as much money as Ruby" Let J=Money Jack has and R=Money Ruby has Then: J=2R \quad \text{ Since Jack as two times...
