I made this mistake in my first year. I bought every textbook for everything and didn't use most of it. Wasted sooo much money. If it says "recommended" don't buy it. The exams will be mostly from lecture notes.

I know two people at my uni who bypassed 1st year French, even at the highest level stream (we have 3) and went straight to the next stage of the advanced stream. Go talk to someone in the French department and get them to place you.

Lol, no you don't!! I do a double degree and I'm doing three majors all spread out over the four years. I'm in my third year now and I'm still doing a first year subject. Call them if you don't believe me... double degrees would be impossible if you were restricted to do subjects like that...

6 hours on Wednesdays, 11-5. Two hour tute, followed by four hour prac, so it's really not that bad.
