Thinking of dropping to standard english

i am now 100% sure that aligned marks have no impact on atar calculation whatsoever. Both your raw external marks and internal assessment marks are alingned to produce a score that places you into different performance bands - different subjects align differently. Each year, BOSTES lays out the...

Thinking of dropping to standard english

From what i've read, aligned marks have NOTHING to do with your atar calculation. From my understanding, the aligning process produces a mark which tells you how you did at fulfulling the requirements of each band descriptor (b6/5/4 etc) So essentially, they determine what performance band...

    HSC Physics Marathon 2013-2015 Archive

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive Explaining the shape itself is far beyond the requirements of the syllabus - the dot point asks you to identify planck's quantisation

Will they go easy on us because we're the first discovery cohort?

On the other hand, we're also disadvantaged because we don't have any exemplar responses of what they consider to be an example of b6/5/4/3/2/1

Test and compare your internet speed

Optus, approx. 18.6mb/s download and 0.5 mb/s upload. Apparently, 49% of the Australian population have better net than me

    2015ers Chit-Chat Thread

I think 80/105 for advanced is around the cut off for b6, however I expect that to be higher for standard. It's statistically improbable, but not impossible. Last year, approx. 1/380 students achieved a band 6 in standard.

    1300 word essay

If you can manage to make your essays very concise, with every single point referring to the question, you can probably get full marks with 900-1k words.

intro/Body Paragraph length for an ESSAY!!

way too much. You're probably including sentences that are not needed. From the essays that i've read, you can make a strong, compelling introduction in under 100 words.

    2015ers Chit-Chat Thread

if your 100/180 rank has a mark that qualifies for a band 6, then maybe 100 band 6 students this year?

    Phonons in cooper pairs

I i'm pretty sure that phonons aren't the region of positive charge; it's more to do with the electrostatic attraction of the positive crystal lattice. Phonons are just packets of vibrational energy that is transferred from the leading electron -> crystal lattice -> trailing electron, enabling...

    Best concentration drug?

many of the drugs ans supplements out there that claim to boost cognitive function are not backed up with evidence illustrating an indesputible relationship between the particular drug and increased mental performance. Coffee or tea is probably the only "drug" that can garuntee increased...

    Superconductors and resistance

I'm pretty sure I saw a graph in one of the HSC past papers showing that electrical resistance dropped to 0 below the critical temperature of a superconductor, so that's what they want you to say. The following was taken from an article on superconductivity published by USYD: "The end result is...

    dummy variables

A typical example of this would be to prove that int(f(a-x)dx) =int(f(x)dx) when using the substitution u = a-x and progressing to int(f(a-u)du), why is u interchangable with x? the main dispute I have is that it appears to conflict with the relationship u = a-x, which suggests that u...

    What technique for this quote

    Solar cells

I don't understand the last two sentences. If that's your whole description of how a solar cell works, then that is not enough the reason why electrons move from the n to p type is not entirely due to the photoelectric effect, but rather due to the process of "diffusion" where excess...

    Textbooks for year 12!

For physics, I would recommend using a variety of syllabus notes created by previous students

    Textbooks for year 12!

For Fitzpatrick, are you referring to the orange/skin-coloured book, or the "new senior mathematics" one? This is my opinion on the difficulty of textbooks in descending order: 1. Terry Lee 2. Cambridge 3. NSM 4. Coroneos 4U + supplement 5. Patel 6. Fitzpatrick Terry lee is a solid pick...

    Prelim to HSC success stories

I disagree with this. Prelim is actually important in making the transition from year 11 to year 12 as smooth as possible. Chances are, many other year 11s will have the carefree, no worries mindset and could potentially be overwhelmed with the demands of the HSC If you take the time to...

Physics Question - Motors and Generators Help

The question says that the mass is placed on side X OR side Y, meaning that it wants you to calculate the torque created by that mass. If the same mass was placed on the other side of the coil, then the torques created by both of the masses would cancel out, and you would have no rotational...
