99.95 TUTOR - CHEMISTRY and PHYSICS SPECIALIST

Hey, I'm considering getting a physics private tutor. Just wondering though, in what area would you be willing to travel to for private tutoring?

    Best tutoring colleges

I've only done minimal amounts of tutoring during primary school but I would *not* recommend North Shore in Randwick unless you're struggling with the subject. Personally I found it too easy and a waste of time but I suppose it could be good if you needed help understanding and relaying the...

Private coaching vs Centre based coaching?

I think I would prefer private tutoring. Even though it's a bit embarassing when you're very lost and there's nothing else to distract the tutor, I reckon this one-on-one environment allows for more intent and productive learning. The group environment seems rather pointless to me as I have...

    Coaching rates?

For private tutoring, I'd agree with $30/hr for a qualified tutor but probably not much more. For group tutoring though, and once again this is dependant on quality, I wouldn't expect to pay more than $15-20/hr.

Scaling issue, help fellow 09ers! (or fellow members)

People can achieve 100% UAI even with PDHPE [well I know of one girl who did anyway] which I think is a low scaling subject, so it's not *all* up to scaling. I must admit though, I'm rather easily swayed by the scaling thing as well... After all, last year's Chinese background speaker highest...

    Half-Yearly Thoughts

Oh dear... I came out of my physics and economics exams feeling rather confident and they were my two worst marks. Seriously, TERRIBLE!! Definitely very much below average. ARGH. Thankfully, I'm quite happy with my english and maths marks which has really helped me forget about physics and...

    school captain/prefects thoughts

My school system works something like this. You nominate yourself first and then the students in your grade vote first. Then the top 20 [or maybe 50? I can't remember] go to vote by the whole school. I think the teachers do not get a vote but if they feel a student is inappropriately suited...

    Your Top/worst Subject?

Best would be Maths Adv and Ext 1. Worst.. physics? I do like physics though... hehe

What subjects are you thinking of dropping next yr?

If I can't make it into the Chinese continuers course, I'll have to drop it. Otherwise I might drop physics or economics although I quite like both... but I'll just have to see how I feel and how my marks are going closer to the end of this year.

    How is this course run?

@Hysterik Ooh, wow. That sounds really great! I've always wished courses gave us more freedom. I'll be sure to ask my English teacher more about it. She's only talked to us about Ext 1 so far. Thank you for your great info and the link to the FAQ. The Board of Studies site has so much...

    How is this course run?

Um, English :) Sorry, I'll correct my first post

    How is this course run?

Hey, I'm currently in Year 11 and my HSC subject selections are coming up soon. I realised I have very little information on 4U english. Could someone give me a brief runover of what the course is like, main strengths required, etc? It would be greatly appreciated! My friend mentioned that...

4u english as your 10th unit?

That seems awfully risking, especially as English ext 2 reputes to be insanely difficult. If you're confident in English, getting a constant level of good grades and well developed in all areas of English study [creative writing, short answers, etc] then you could consider it. Otherwise, you...

Which Uni has the most Azns?

Uh.. just staying out of this racism argument we have going on and in answer to the original question... I think UNSW has a pretty high proportion of asians. Just from walking around campus and stuff, it seems around 50% or more are asian..

what language do you think in?

Lol I think in both English and Chinese [Canto, Mando or Shangho lol] But usually English and then Shanghainese/Canto next

    Who was born in australia?

Um, I'm an ABC but my mum and grandma can speak Mando, Shangho and Canto so I've learnt a lot from them and also, watching Honky dramas on TVBJ =D My family is originally Shanghainese so I'm most fluent in that. I can speak increasingly fluent Mando as I take Chinese at school. My canto is...

Is it really hard to learn Chinese ?

Personally I think it's hard for someone who has know Chinese background at all to learn Chinese. Some of the grammar and concepts may be hard to understand. Also, some sounds may be really difficult to pronounce. If you already have some Chinese background though, it's a lot easier. But...

    Chinese song names in iTunes

Ask your friends how they got iTunes to order by pin yin
  19. I

Chinese Background , do or not??

Don't do it. The course is considerably harder than continuers and you'll be facing people who really do come from China. Also, it scales VERY badly even if you do well in it. I think last year, the top mark was 49.5 and got scaled down to 20-something? You can still do it if they're extra...

How useful is it in uni?

Thank you everyone for your replies :) Hehe, yeah, getting an idea of the course would be a good idea. However, I already feel like the more I find out about the courses, the more I lose interest in engineering as a possible career :( Ooh, that's pretty cool. I guess it sorta applies for...
