Re: Your Inudstrial Chem answers Yeah I think that should be full marks considering you analysed in more detail. Did you mention the structure of soap (head and tail) which allows for micelle formation?

Re: Your Inudstrial Chem answers Nice. Spent so much time trying to figure that out. Not sure why :L

    Failing chem- HELP!

I was generally terrible at calculations as well. But once I got the hang of it, I actually preferred for there to be more calculation questions in exams. Just practice doing a range of questions and you will be fine, as you'll be doing a lot of them in HSC chemistry.

Can someone please explain the calculation questions?

For the oily liquid question, what was the final temperature? 40 or 50?

re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive That should be correct. A low dissolved oxygen level and high BOD indicate possibilities of eutrophication.

    Raw mark E4 cutoff?

Iirc, last year the cut off was 40. I don't think it will drastically change considering the 2012 exam and our exam wasn't too different in terms of difficulty.

    Worried....

    Creative writing. Always so random..

    7 mark question in options!!

I usually write about 1.5 pages. I think 1 page is enough though. It's important that you're concise and succinct in your answer and are answering what the question is asking for, so don't go rambling on.

    UWS Medicine

The ATAR required is about 93.55 (for GWS). UMAT is more important for UWS. Once you pass the ATAR threshold, you're ranked against your UMAT score. The entrance score changes each year. It is usually about 135+ which is made up of S1, S2 and half of S3. Edit: Yeah you're right. I've...

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Chemistry Marathon It isn't 1g of the substance, it is 1 mole. Since the molar weight of propane is about 44, 44 / 44 = 1, meaning 1 mole of the substance releases 2200 kJ of heat.

    Sciences All Nyter Thread

No, these are based on actual raw marks. 85 raw would be pushed up to about 95.

    Sciences All Nyter Thread

Physics - 75 and Chemistry - 70 Changes every year though.

    Pencil in Science Exams?

Multiple choice is much easier to correct when using pen. Diagrams and graphs, not so much.

re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive Acids containing oxygen is based on Lavoisier's theory. Davy proposed that acids contain replaceable hydrogen.

    Genre Theory?

    The link doesn't work..

    Salt Bridge

According to my textbook, magnesium ions would move into the salt bridge and 'push' potassium ions (from the KNO3 solution) into the cathode, effectively neutralising the imbalance of charge. In that case, I would assume copper ions would do the same with nitrate ions.
