You can drop down at anytime, but you can't move from general -> adv maths Also, any university with a maths prerequisite requires adv maths, general is not considered as basic level maths. If you want to do engineering, maths, economics, science or even commerce at uni you should stick with 2unit

don't be a twat and drop the subject simply because you tried for 2 months and found it a bit difficult. Remember, general maths won't meet any prerequisites at uni, you will need 2unit or higher. It's really not that hard if you commit yourself and want to learn it
