I am ranked first in IPT and i came first in the hsc exam (80%). How come i got 73 as my assesment...

I don't get it. I came 1st in ipt and got an hsc examination mark of 80. But my assessment mark comes up as 73?? Shouldn't i have a assessment mark of 80 because i came first?

You're marks have been aligned. The scaling process occurs by UAC to determine you're ATAR.

But if there's more people that do bad in the Std eng, that means the average will be lower, and say i do really well, wouldn't that mean my alignment will be good since i've exceeded the average by a lot??

Yeh but i don't get why it's so difficult to obtain a B6 in standard... For example; if someone is confident that they done really well in the hsc exam and thinks he could get a B6, but he's in a low ranked school... Why would it be unlikely to get B6??

Why's that?

Is it possible to get a B6 or a high B5 in Eng.Std at a school ranked 605 while ranked 2/22??

oh yeh.. so the marks that are applied into the calculator are already adjusted to the ranks that the student at school in his subjects?

How does the calculator provide an ATAR estimate without taking into consideration the school rank and subject rank of the individual? And sometimes they are pretty accurate ..

It doesn't matter if you're school rank is crap. As long as you're ranked 1st and know you went well in externals. However, since i'm ranked 2nd, with not much of a big gab, i might still have a chance, and i hope i do. But, i will still be happy with a high band 5.
