    its possible, relax^
  2. mysterymarkplz

Can someone give me some confidence!

Getting all band 6 means 98+ You need probably at most 1 band 6 and the rest b5 for a 90+

    HSC Results Countdown

Re: HSC Results Coutdown + General Discussion my asshole is ready the 17th
  4. mysterymarkplz

    Ah damn.

Use your orbital velocity formula, V = root(GM/r), as R decreases, the V required to stay in orbit increases. So if you have insufficient V to maintain that orbit, it'll just plummet down towards Earth, and since atmospheric drag reduces V, it can't stay in that orbit hence it'll decrease to the...

Q that's most definitely not supposed to be in a past HSC...

I've seen this dot point in a textbook which followed the syllabus, and it listed maglev + transmission lines as uses for a superconductor, basically what the guy above me said.

Past HSC'ers: How did you results reflect your expectations?

ITT the general comment is that marking criteria can rip your anus, which i agree with and I have seen it happen. The state can only give so many band 6's, even if you think your answer warrants 3 marks, they take everyones paper and judge it, from there they decide and change the marking...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

perhaps, you might be able to get away with it if you say like dissolves like and they are both nonpolar.

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

Thats fair enough. I chose it cause I knew that was its main use. If you google uses of ethanol, the first thing that comes up is its extensive use as a solvent for chemicals. I feel like the question was more geared towards the society part, the equations and chemical principles just helped...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

there are no reactions to show its a solvent. you draw its structural formula, account for alkyl group forming dispersion forces with oil, hydroxyl group forming dipole-dipole bonds with hydrogen in water. thus it can dissolve stuff like hexane and water.

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

Yeah iStudent is right, how they mark it also depends on how well the quality of answers are, they need to maintain a certain % of high level answers to %of middle range and so on. So if people start talking about fuel and solvents and give brilliant and thorough responses to them, markers begin...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

In that case you could use ethanol as a fuel, reactant for esterification, ethene production, solvent, disinfectant, heating, etc. There are way too many options for ethanol if you follow the logic that you can use anything as long as you justify it. All you guys are saying ethanol -> ethene is...

    OPTION: Industrial Chemistry

hardly anyone gets 7 in those long responses. to get 7 i rekon you had to talk about a) saponification, definition of it, what a soap is, its structure - draw its structure - show why it is used as a cleaning agent (using all your like-like dissolves and micelles) - relate that to use (personal...

    OPTION: Industrial Chemistry

    no.

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

Thats true, I go to a decent selective school and all the top 5 kids that got 90+ in trials still struggled to get around a raw of 90 in the actual exam. I saw their test papers which they purchased from bos and the marking criteria got really pedantic towards 4,5,6 and 7 markers.

    OPTION: Industrial Chemistry

^yeah it helps to explain their use and environmental impacts

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

i defined what AAS was, briefly described how it can detect the concentration of [Ca2+] ions. I said if it shows an decrease in concentration of Ca2+, that in fact confirms that raising the temperature of the equillibrium reduces the hardness of H2O. It was a 4 marker tho so i felt my answer was...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

Ethanol is primarily derived from fermentation because it is renewable. Ethanol derived from ethene is not renewable. The point is you would rather go with acid hydrolysis of sucrose -> glucose then fermentation as opposed to thermal/catalytic cracking of octane -> addition reaction with H2O...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

I took off 1-2 marks for almost every long response depending on how i felt with my answer. All my 2 markers were correct, i went around asking the top 5 how they went and most of them got the same answer as me. Also did the same thing for industrial. Ofc you can never be sure, the 20/20 for MC...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

Do you guys rekon the mark required for b6 for chem and its alligning for hsc marks will be better than last year? I think this year was harder than last year but not by that much.
