I find reading the text first easier as sometimes there are like 8 total questions and I can't memorise ALL 8 questions and read the passage and I forget them as I read through the text. But I will try reading some non-fiction novels and articles as you suggested. :)

I did AMC but it was in year 6 and got a distinction, the last 5 questions have 6,7,8,9,10 marks on them so they are really hard. Back then I found quite a lot of year 6 AMC past papers and I noticed that the final question on the past paper actually appeared on the exam so I knew how to work it...
