    evolutionary mechanisms?

There are several mechanisms that are attributed to "Evolution". Natural selection, which is the survival of a species due to beneficial hereditary changes from environmental pressures over a long period of time or put plainly survival of the fittest, is definately the main mechanism but there...

    Monitor level of the ions

    Classic exam question so take note: CFCl3 + UV Light ==> CFCl2 + Cl Cl + O3 ==> ClO + O2 ClO + O ==> Cl + O2 The free chlorine atom is then free to attack another ozone molecule Cl + O3 ==> ClO + O2 ClO + O ==> Cl + O2 and again ... Cl + O3 ==> ClO + O2 ClO + O ==> Cl + O2 and again... for...

Is getting <50% common in chem or does my school just suck??

Work hard on chem and it will pay off. Really, get your notes done early because the sooner you can get them stuck in your head the better it is for you. Don't finsh your core notes the night before and don't even study your elective because you will get 77% lol.

    Electrolysis of water

Cathode= Negative Anode= Positive When water dissociates it creates, as im sure you know, hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen has an overall delta charge of + (positive) and oxygen - (negative). Therefore when water is dissociated during electrolysis hydrogen will collect at the Cathode and...

    Structure of cyanide CN

Yer thanks 4 that xiao, i know that the anion CN- is a ligand and it has a high tendency to coordinate covalent bond. But i was wrong to suggest that its triple covalent bond contained a coordinate covalent bond.

PLEASE CHECK - are my titration calculations correct?

Since your test was the next day it's already done but ill let you know anyway. The concentration of the solution would either be tested by titrating it with a primary standard solution. Or if it was made to be the primary standard solution (and it wouldve been checked with a titration...

Coordenate convalent bond? Correct me if im wrong. If the op isn't sure that it is then ill explain then... Back to King Lear :). Cheers.

Half Equations Questions i had troble with

    2. Its been a while since i have done stoci so i couldve got it wrong. Equation (I THINK) is: Zn(s) + 2 MnO2(s) + ZnCl2(aq) + 2 H2O(l) → 2 MnO(OH)(s) + 2 Zn(OH)Cl(aq) Zn=65.5 MnO2=71 and there is 8g of it. 8/87= 0.092 mols of MnO2 mole ratio is 1/2 (Divide by 2) =0.046 mols of Zn...

    bonding....

Jezz, i was always under the impression that HNO3 was ionically bonded... Mmmmm... Anyway, taking a stab i'd say that it would have something to do the solubility, yes, but in realation to the polarity of the substance. Not sure if you have learnt about that so ill give you a very...

    How do I answer this?

I think it would be suitable to firstly mention what the polymer is used for eg PVC used for plastic piping. Then mention the properties that makes it suitable eg hard and ridged. Then the chemical makeup of the polymer eg. Large side chain/functional group that gives it the properties to be...

    Titration Experiment - URGENT

I'm stretching my memory so correct me if im wrong. For what i remember a primary standard solution is a solution made by yourself when you know the exact mass of the solid (Na2CO3 in your case) and the exact mass of the water need to give you a solution of a certain molarity. When making...

how to figure out the ionic charge on a atom/molecule?

I think you shouldve already encounted most of the common radicals in the prelim course eg. SO4-2 and NO2-1. These you will just have to memorise, either by straight memory work (recomended) or you can use the valenices of the elements encounted to work out the charge of the radical, what ever...

ionic equation for this titration formula

Don't worry about the ionic equation when it comes using the mole ratio. Just look at your neturalisation reaction and use the ratio that appears there. Cheers.

    WHAT DOES CuSO4 · 5H2O MEAN?

Hey champ, The name of the substance is copper sulfate penthydrate. All it means is that there are 5 water molecules to 1 copper sulfate molecule. Don't have a PT handy but all u need 2 do is add the molecular weight of CuSO4 to (5 x H2O). That'll give u the weight. Good luck. Cheers.
