    a question in Conics

u find the equations of the normals at P and Q solve them simultaneously then make y the subject. equation normal: %5Cfrac%7Ba%5E2x%7D%7Bx_%7B1%7D%7D-%5Cfrac%7Bb%5E2y%7D%7By_%7B1%7D%7D%20=%20a%5E2%20-%20b%5E2 and same for the other one when solvin sumlataneouly use the subtraction method easier

    a question in Conics

P(x1,y1) and Q(x2,y2) are two points on the ellipse Let the equation of the line PW be y = mx + k. As PQ passes throuhg the focus (ae,0) therefore mae + k therefore = -mae y=mx-mae (equation of PQ) Solve simultaneously the equations of chord PQ and the ellipse to find P and Q...

  11. E

    Trig Identity

    i think this way works aswell sin^6@ + cos^6@ + 3sin^2@cos^2@ = 1 LHS = (sin^2@)^3 + (cos^2@)^3 + 3sin^2@cos^2@ = (sin^2@ + sin^2@)^3 - 3sin^2@cos^2@ + 3sin^2@cos^2@ = (sin^2@ + sin^2@)^3+0 = (1)^3 =1 RHS somone1 check plz i don't know if there is a rule...

Conics: Derive formula or use formula's

Well i was wondering for conics, are we allowed to directly use the formula's of tangents, equation of chord of contact and etc or do we have to derive them on the spot. And is it easier to use formula's directly or derive them Which way would be easier and most effective Thnks.
