Advanced English - what's with the time constraints?

Well, I deeply regret not being as good as you, but at this stage in the year, but I can't write 6 pages in 50 minutes. It really wasn't the point of the post for people to tell me my writing speed isn't good enough - what you have said is exactly what I am arguing against. I don't mean to be...

Advanced English - what's with the time constraints?

I'm sorry I just completely disagree with you. In my view students moulding their essays to the question, whether memorised or not, is the entire point of the exam, and to suggest that this should be stamped out just seems crazy. Suggesting that students need to come up with everything they...

Advanced English - what's with the time constraints?

Well said. Yeah I never really considered that the objective of the education system wasn't... education. I think that probably explains a lot of things, not only this! I might try your method for my mid course exams next term - it's a bit late for tomorrow's assessment!

Advanced English - what's with the time constraints?

lol what have you started? That's true actually, I have surprised myself in the past with how quickly I can write in an exam. I guess it's just practice... I'm just a bit annoyed really that it has to be an issue when surely an essay should be an opportunity for us to show what we know not an...

Advanced English - what's with the time constraints?

I have my second assessment task for Advanced English on Thursday. It's going to be an essay, and I'm pretty much prepared in terms of content, quotes etc. but I'm worried I'm not going to be able to get it all down in the 50 minutes specified. The teachers want 6 or 7 pages. It just seems...

Email advertising from Bored of Studies

This may be true, but many smaller sites seem to survive financially without needing to advertise to members when the members are not directly interacting with the site (ie through emails). I think that members should be able to leave the site without being bothered by its advertisements. I'm...

Email advertising from Bored of Studies

Ok, thanks for your help and it would be beneficial to have those inconsistencies cleared up. Thanks for the quick replies and coming up with a solution. I would like to make one comment though, which I don't intend as criticism as much as an observation. While I understand that I did agree to...

Email advertising from Bored of Studies

I understand this and I've found the relevant part of the disclaimer just then. However, I'm unsure as to why the disclaimer shown when you register is different to the disclaimer you can find linked at the bottom of every page. The former says you agree to advertising while the latter makes no...

Email advertising from Bored of Studies

Hey everyone, I just received two emails this afternoon from Bored of Studies which were advertisements for ADFA and Excel textbooks. I just wanted to know what people think of whether Bored of Studies should do this (hence why I created a poll). Now firstly when I signed up to the site...

    Which is easier?

It's more just that I find the system overly complex. In particular though I still don't understand the moderation of assessment marks, as many of my teachers have explained it differently and I don't know who to believe!

Study Journal for an ATAR of 99.95

Wow I thought for a second your sig said 'best cleavage in everything' I was getting excited

    Your Motivators

Motivation is something I've struggled with for a while but I seem to focus on these things when I need motivation: 1. Getting a high enough ATAR to get into whatever course I want to do 2. Thinking about my gap year (current plan is work then travel!!!!!) 3. Doing the best I possibly can. I...

    99.95 ATAR aim

Yep, same here - I find them useless and prefer 'to-do' lists. 99.95 is a pretty difficult goal... it's like the top 50 or so isn't it? Anyway good luck with it!

    Which is easier?

Which is easier to understand? Scaling... or women?

Minimum quotas for women on boards

Re: Do you believe the govt should set a minimum quota for women on boards? In other words... Get back in the kitchen. Go back to the 1950s.

    Roll Call: Class of 2014

Hey everyone, finally it's our final year, couldn't have come sooner :) I'm doing: English Advanced Maths Ext 1 Maths Ext 2 Physics Economics French Continuers Dropped Chem (was boring as all shit) and Eng Ext 1 at the end of the Prelim course, so I'm pretty happy with the way my subjects have...

    Have a holiday!

How much should i be studying?

Year 10 - who cares. Honestly, it doesn't mean anything. Year 11 is your last chance to screw up - your last practice run before the HSC. This is where you should be working out how you study best and what works for you. My study techniques were non existent at the beginning of Year 11 but...

    Post your subject regrets

Doing 14 units for the entire Prelim course was completely unnecessary. I should have dropped Eng Ext after the mid course exams... but I didn't (I'm going to drop it for the HSC though). Shouldn't have done Chem either - our class has 14 at the moment (pretty small school, only 70 in the year)...

    Should English be compulsory??

Haha, so true! I didn't even mean for it to be that long, but once I started, all my pent-up anger came out in a massive rant/rage thing! English just pisses me off...
