Well even if he 'broke down somewhat' in the exam, his assessment mark should have minimised the damage to an extent.. I wouldn't think that just because he had a melt down in one exam (such as physics) his anticipated atar would drop by 25... that's just not right. So it seems like he slacked...

I think to an extent your assessment marks will matter because they will somewhat reflect your ability in the subject. This means that if you get a terrible internal raw school mark due to you slacking off/procrastinating, you run the risk that in the actual HSC exam, this will come to bite you...

loll yeah! nice work!! go us lower scaling subjects people. i got 99.70 with english adv, maths, business studies, accounting and economics! no sciences, no extensions! yay =] my parents were very happy for me because they'd seen how hard I worked all year.

matrix estimate: 99.80 actual atar: 99.70 this is a win for low scaling subjects and for the no science and no extension people who feel as though their chances of an extremely high atar are virtually non-existent just because they don't do the traditional high-atar generating subjects of 4u...

my marks were: accounting - 92 business studies - 96 english advanced - 96 mathematics - 96 economics - 97 (3rd in the state) woo, no sciences and no extensions!

that is true to a degree, but the power of scaling also distorts so that those who worked extremely hard doing lower scaling subjects, even if they do extremely well, still cannot match someone who does well in higher-scaling subjects atar-wise.

lol i wasnt expecting first in the state, i was simply asking. which subject did the person you know top, may i ask ?

how do you know you got 7th in the state when each of the ranks after 1st are not disclosed till the day of the results?
