[Live POV] 2023 Extension 2 Maths Paper except you are the teacher seeing it for the first time.

I much prefer your solution but I'll explain why their solution is valid (at least as I understand it): In short, the triangle is either clockwise or anticlockwise. If the triangle is anticlockwise, then a+bw+cw^2 = 0 \implies (a+bw+cw^2)(a+bw^2+cw) = 0(a+bw^2+cw)=0 Similarly, if the triangle is...

    Awesome, thanks mate

@carrotsss or anyone else do you have any idea how harshly they mark the papers? I think I did alright (a bit worse than I’d hoped but fine) but there’s lots of marks they could’ve taken off if they feel like it (eg. Not proving the orientation of the vertices was correct for the parallelogram...

Where did De Moivre's theorem go? And roots of unity for that matter? Seems like all of the complex number stuff (bar Q11) was geometric this year. I quite like that, but interesting decision.

Which one? The sphere vector one? Struggled there - only got it after the test

Look it’s hard to keep up with all the messages, sorry if someone’s already responded but use t = 2theta and then consider symmetry of function on x=pi/2

Urgent - Can you write cis in the hsc

Should be -- there's not gonna be any marker who doesn't know what cis means. Just make sure it doesn't look too similar to cos (I tend to do that occasionally)

Urgent - Can you write cis in the hsc

Agreed, unless it says to 'express your answer in modulus-argument form' or something

    Maths Extension 2 Predictions/Thoughts

Look I'm not entirely sure but pretty confident that 4U and 3U papers are written by the same people, and all of the 2U papers are written by the same people, but those two groups are distinct. i.e today's 4U may hint at the level of 3U, but 2U probably won't tell us anything. Not that it matters

To drop down or not? That is the question

Your comment that people will be less motivated to study maths standard because they will see ‘raw marks in practice’ and ‘aligned marks’ that will satisfy them is a fair one, and if you’ve seen lots of people fall into this trap, then I think you have a point. However, I don’t think it’s...

To drop down or not? That is the question

Look with all due respect mate, you’re just flat out wrong about the common scale - see attached image (source: ATAR scaling report 2022 page 8). Also, claiming that the scaling is “determined based on the performance of the cohort in English” isn’t 100% wrong, but highly misleading. Instead...

To drop down or not? That is the question

I’m also not sure about this - I personally put in a lot less effort into English than I did into Math even though (or maybe because) I found English MUCH more difficult

To drop down or not? That is the question

Not sure your explanation is 100% — the system seems to me like it’s designed such that if every student put the same amount of time into each of their subjects then they should get the same mark (with a couple of minor, but usually irrelevant caveats). So my assumption (and seemingly yours)...

    ENGLISH ADV - PAPER TWO

Ahh I found that horrible can’t believe all of you loved it so much I mean make us ask ‘what is a text about’ like what since when was that important I thought it was more about ‘why’ the composers did what they did? And Mod B question itself was fine but form, intellectual engagement and...

    insertion vs selection sort

If a visualisation is what you need you're spoiled for choice on the internet. From a brief amount of googling I think this is the best I've got for insertion and selection sort: https://www.cs.usfca.edu/~galles/visualization/ComparisonSort.html Note: The way NESA implements insertion sort is...

    ENGLISH ADV - PAPER ONE

Honestly yeah Q5 wasn’t great (especially when you end up giving yourself like 7 mins for a 5-marker :( ) but surely other people thought Q3 was hard? What’s up with a news article on consumerism?

    Tempest/Hag-Seed Hard Questions?

Thank you - not quite what I was looking for but still appreciate it. Just to provide a bit more info, I'll include an image of the question from last year. This is the kind of thing I'm looking for. I'm assuming no one really has much on this so not an issue if you don't have, just would be...
