hi guys:biggrin:

given that my life, and my linkedin is dryer than the sahara desert, i'm looking for extracurriculars to take during my high school years to boost my network and myself.

i'm looking for any sort of programs, courses, certificates, or competitions i can take part to consider as extracurriculars and achievements.
preferably i'd like it to be free (not a must), and virtual (again, not a must)

i'm interested in business, finance, tech, corporate, and anythign basically related to that category. but i'm open to do other sorts of industry categories if i find it interesting aswell!
thanks guys:biglaugh:

If you're interested in business and finance, I would really recommend that you take a look at case competitions like those run by PwC and KPMG, which are big names in the industry. I found out about those too late, and I realise that they could be really helpful. You could also consider Model UN comps and school debating to practice your public speaking and critical thinking skills, which are valued highly in business. But yeah, these are powerful but may be a bit daunting, so just pick up any hobby you think you'll enjoy, and you'll learn crucial skills in anything that you choose (companies look for people with personality). Extracurricular achievements and qualifications help, but in the end it's about your soft skills

you should do duke of ed (looks good on resume, free if your school does it) and join scouts (network, social - however not free)
Duke of ed were one of the most traumatic experiences of my life
thank god the teacher let me do a ‘trial’ where i didnt already pay for the award

Apply as a world literacy foundation youth ambassador. Doesn’t require much work, but sounds like a fancy position. Plus, majority of it is online with globally based ambassadors, and you do some fundraising within your community.

Yeh, I did it last year. It was pretty good honestly and quite easy to balance with schoolwork and stuff. They give like 5 online modules on their platform which you have to complete over the 3 months, and you also have to attend like 1 monthly meeting with all the ambassadors from around the world. Sometimes it's a bit disorganised.

You plan a fundraiser which you hold in the last month. It can be in your community or school or online or whatever.

Most of it is individual work, but I ended up getting into contact with another ambassador near me and we worked together on our fundraiser.

They also give a personalised letter of recommendation for jobs or uni or scholarship applications at the end.

I'm still an ambassador, but haven't done any work for a bit. Might start doing something after HSC. Its pretty much up to you how you want to roll with it after the 3 week program.

I hope this helps! :)

You might have to apply next year though. I think it's closed for this year. Applications open in March I think.
