guys smo help please!! im so worried abt scaling, I don't really understand it that much other than moderating ur marks according to ur rank (50% ur hsc mark, 50% of ur rank's mark). if im ranked second with a very small gap (like 1% or 0. smth) and my mark is significantly higher than first rank's in hsc how badly would it impact me?? is there any way being ranked second would still allow me to have the highest hsc mark overall? cos I saw some guy explaining smth like this on an old BOS thread but im not too sure and its making me sooo worried

yes this happened to me in mx2 i still got first in hsc. you definitely have a chance considering your gap is so close

im not really sure but i dont think the gap for me was that close, maybe between 3-5%. but also accounting for the fact that mx2 scales crazy and i think the person who ranked 1 possibly had a bad day on the exam cause i fully expected them to beat me so its all circumstantial.

my explanation from another thread (this is to the best of my understanding take it with a grain of salt):
1. You get your internal ranks
2. Say the highest internal mark was 60 and the lowest was 20, and the highest in the HSC was 80 and the lowest was 60 - the highest rank internal will get 80 as their internal mark, and the lowest rank internal will get 60 as their internal mark (externals are not affected)
3. If you're in between, then you get moved accordingly! So if you say ranked 2nd with a 54 internally, that would probably get changed to approximately 77. Note that though your actual internal mark doesn't do anything, it still determines how well you moderate, so it's not purely rank that matters.
4. Then they average this score and your external mark!

which means that if the gap internally is small and the hsc mark externally is big then yes, you could get the highest overall mark (e.g. someone gets 92 and 94 and you get 90 internal and 98 external)
