how hard is it in comparsion to all the other hsc chem modules?
some people on here said that they enjoyed it and found it easy
curious to know what the general consensus is on mod 7 chem
(as in is there a lot of memorising and stuff and if this is the module which trips up a lot of people/ questions can be harder in comparison to those seen in mod 5/6???)

no maths, all memorisation and recognising patterns, lot of nomenclature stuff, application of what you memorised. most things memorised are how the nomenclature works and a lot of generalised reactions and processes. application is like using the reactions you learned, how would I synthesise blah from blah using blah

well ive only finished mod 7 and 5, and i tend to find the calculation modules fairly straightforward. keq stuff was pretty easy, i havent finished mod 6 so i cant say, but mod 7 is kind of overwhelming with how much there is, so id say yeah its more difficult, but if youre able to retain all the content and make sure youre not falling behind its not too bad, esp once everything comes together.

Yes, it's harder. There is a lot of memorisation, and not much mathematical law. A lot of the drivers of organic reactions are very subtle. The enthalpy changes are not great, and hence a lot of the reactions you will encounter are reversible equilibria. Depending on the concentrations a reaction could go forward or backwards. There are numerous reaction pathways and quite often a reaction can produce mixed products. All of this adds to the complexity of this module, but life is rarely simple.
